i tried to throw coal and it didn't work?, also i press T on most things to view descr and it doesn't show descr for everything, also the heat on the ingot goes quickly to the point you have to put it back in the furnace, but its still aroound 700-850 degrees
it has worked for me the ore smelter but i wished once we melt 3 ore's and it gets poured it should tell us what we made or we won't know what heat temp too use
I'm kind of thinking the same thing, as I'm having the same issue as well. I put in 2 browns and a silvery one I think. Can't get the coal to go in anywhere, no matter what I try.
If we accidentally put an incompatible combination of ores, there needs to be a way to fix it, like a way to either get the ores back or a way to scrap what's in there currently. The current setup will likely piss off a lot of people that are new to smelting and don't know what ore is what.
Do we have to turn on the smelter by putting the coal first then we put in the ores or it doesn't matter?
Doesn't seem to matter. I put the ores in first and the coal last on my first attempt and it worked just fine.
My first alloy sword (2 copper and 1 tungsten I believe):

Edit: I just needed to crouch & hold it out to the base of the smelter to get it working. Wished it told you that before hand.
Put 3 x ore stones into top of bowl - if you press the tap on the side it will give you information once you reach the correct amount which is = 3
1 / you have to walk as close to the boiler/bowl as you can on the fire side,
2 / then press "Ctrl” to crouch and be as close to the fire as it allows you can then
3 / push the coal box into the fire below the pot
4 / the coals then burst into fire and the boiler starts working
5 / there is a tap at the side that will when pressed tell you
A / if there is enough ore in
and once the correct ore number is reached = 3 the process then starts to melt the ores into molten metal
after 2 minutes you press the tap and get the option to make up a sword design for your ingot mold
once its has poured carry it to the anvil to start hammering out the new sword.

Hello, thank you @Eddbanger for his explanation of how the ore smelter works.
I am on this subject because, I believe that my problem with the ore smelting resembles this subject of discussion. I did not want to open another subject of the same problem. It makes research too complex when you are there, precisely.
I used the ore foundry with 3 bronze ores, as well as a coal case and waited the necessary time, 2 minutes, until at the tap place it asked us if we want, yes or not, melt a bar. I answered yes.
A window appears. We see the shape of a dotted sword blade which seems divided into 4 sections (if I remember correctly) when we place our cursor in certain places of the shape of the blade, except that it does nothing .
Nothing is happening.
Nothing appeared.
The "Continue" button does not work or even the "Delete" button.
The worst part is that nothing works anymore.
Pressed all the keys on my keyboard and the mouse, in case a key would allow a function.
Twice I had to open the Windows task manager to close the game then restart it and buy the ore foundry to try again.
Oddly, the purchase of the ore smelter had not been recorded, twice too. Still unsuccessful and with the same problem of being unable to leave the foundry window.
None of the keys on my keyboard or the mouse work.
I find this problem odd.
I even doubted that I had waited long enough in this window to pour the ore into the bar.
Has anyone encountered the same problem?
Can anyone help me?
Thanks for all the help.
Regards,
veda
PS: I have a new computer and includes: Windows 10, intel core i7-9700 and Geforce RTX2070 graphics card. I don't think the problem comes from there.
The particular issue with the ore smelter being that it eats ores without counting them, it can eat literally any item.
I wasted like 9 different ores and 4 coal trying to smelt a single ingot, the checklist only counted one copper ore and one tungsten ore, all the other ones apparently "vanished" inside the smelter, same deal with most of the coal when I tried to fire it up.
The only ones that count are those that trigger a small animation for going in, anything else you drop over the smelter seems to get stuck inside the model of the ore smelter, with no way to get it back.
