What's all the fuss about graphics being terrible?
It might look dodgy out of the box, but with super sampling set to medium, the game looks great, in some areas maybe even better than PC2. The "it looks like a mobile game" stuff is utter nonsense.

Seems like folks were lying about the mobile graphics apparently.

Here are my gfx settings (i9700k/RTX 2070 super combo):

Playing on 1440p resolution on 4k TV (the rain is killing my fps so I lowered the res), everything ultra, SS off, motion blur off.
In config ini file I set bloom to 0, SMAA,FXAA to 1 (don't know if it has any effect?).
In nvidia control panel:
FXAA enabled
MFAA enabled
AA mode - enhance the application setting (multiplier to 8x)
Image sharpen enabled to eliminate the blurry image (I set it very high because my view distance to the screen is far away but you can adjust it to your preference).

The results: picture quality = beautiful, no performance loss noticed.

Tweaking the GraphicsConfigDX11 files in local documents?

That is what kids do nowadays when they can't have something. They will try to make sure nobody else gets it anyway possible, posting lies, downvoting, namecalling whatever it takes to make people shy away from purchasing something they want very very badly but cannot get.The video proves to me that they improved on many aspects of the graphics engine.

And I have a 2080ti.
I dont know what you're talking about, in VR it looks fantastic, and im only on a 1070.
I always wonder what people compare it to or what their frame of reference is when they claim this.

A fully tweaked PC2 looks leaps and bounds better then PC3 in VR, as of writing. Sharp as a tack, no jitter, jutter and running buttery smooth @120hz versus "looks like someone went to town with vaseline inside my headset and why is there so much jittering,...?".

Don't get me wrong, they will surely get there, so I don't fret about it too much. But claiming it's good now is a rather subjective statement.

Textures and grass make all the difference. Sprites belong in Forza. In high res it's real nasty.

It seems most complains about visuals come from the PS4 version.

Youre factually wrong, look at the link above, PC3 already looks better. It doesnt look worse in VR, you're smoking the hasheesh

After messing around with the ini file the looks are acceptable, and the frames for the most part are stable in VR.

A few problems though.

Night tracks/courses, for some reason they lose the graphics settings and you're left with PS1 graphics on the AI cars with blurred backgrounds. You'd think because of that, frames/performance would be off the scale... nope:/

Wet races totally tank the frame rate, and there's a 'weird' white superimposed outline on the AI cars which makes them 2d objects stuck on to the screen. I don't get this, because PC2 never had this problem, i can run PC2, AMS2, and even ACC in total downpours and not get dropped frames in multiplayer or 20+ AI fields.

One thing that does impress me over no other VR racing title so far is the sense of scale. The world scale is great. I am only in the road cars thus far, but you feel the large interior like no other VR racer.

Hopefully there's some fixes coming soon, because with the night races something is very wrong, even the interior/dashboard look like they're pre graphics card era.

I played both PC3 and PC2 yesterday as well as GRID 2019 which PC3 seems very much like.

I honestly think PC3’s visuals are noticeably worse than PC2 (both running maxed out at 1440p) for the following reasons:

- No MSAA or FXAA/SMAA options making the game look more shimmery and aliased, most obviously in the cockpit view. I play PC2 with MSAA set to High and it actually runs much better than PC3 using the same track, car and clear weather conditions, than PC3. PC3 runs on the same engine as PC2 so why have these anti-aliasing options been removed on PC? There is a Super-sampling option but using it tanks performance (especially in the rain), which brings me on to...

- Performance is noticeably worse in PC3. Maybe it’s the lack of a game-ready driver from NVIDIA (I’m using 452.06 WHQL) and/or the revamped lighting model in the game? Rain/wet weather events are by far the worst offenders though yet these run fine in PC2 and with better water spray effects from the cars!

- Level of detail (LOD) transitions are much worse than the last game on the same Ultra Settings with barriers and building details popping in very distractingly in the mid-distance. Grass also draws in very close too and looks bad in my opinion. It is hard not to see these issues when your eyes are focused on what is in front of you.

- Texture flickering on cars and signs. It’s not too distracting but it is there, at least on my system but not in PC2. Not sure if the car issue is texture flickering so much as the whole model seems to disappear for a frame then reappear the next. It’s real blink-and-you-will-miss-it stuff but it seems to happen on packed corners (could well be a graphics driver issue).

These things all contribute to a visually inferior looking sequel even if 90% of the content, models and textures are recycled from PC2. It’s hard to say the graphics are improved in any way. The lighting has been altered but I don’t think it is necessarily better, just different. Night time races do not look as good as the previous game to me.

Considering the developers claim to have improved the engine, it is hard to see exactly where these improvements are. Better smoke effects at the expense of poorer looking water spray effects in wet races? I would have expected much better performance and the addition of temporal anti aliasing considering how much stuff is recycled and *unaltered* from the last game.

The only things most obviously improved are the controls - the game now plays brilliant with an Xbox One Elite v2 controller - and the handling of the cars, which feels more arcade like but at least no longer feels like I am driving a brick on ice!

I will also say that this is the most accessible and enjoyable Project CARS game so far for me. It’s just a shame that the rewards for completing Career events are so stingy, resulting in me having to do a lot of grinding in the Custom Events menu in order to earn enough credits to buy the car I need to progress to the new events. Combined with the terrible A.I. it means the game is starting to feel unsatisfying after some 8 hours of play. I want to love the game, I really do, but going back to GRID, which PC3 seems to be mimicking, made me realise how much more exciting Codemasters game is to play. It also looks and runs much better than PC3...

the game overall, it has a very decent graphics, and you guys trying to run the ingame SS (Super Sampling) is just going to upscale your native resolution, from 4k to more. is normal to impact the performance, use the GPU control panel, it has more options and well tweaked the game looks and runs beautifully.

Using DLAA Plus via Reshade gets rid of the jagged edges for me in 4k.

But i bet you got a bunch of £50 mediocre games...starting with this one
