Active global players are 300-80 people... and tanking... Save your cash. https://steamdb.info/app/958400/graphs/
I also think more and more players will be joining as the game is really good.
Anyway you can play some scheduled races with 7-8+ people usually in EU prime time.
The online multiplayer is dead and after selling the game to Codemasters, they appear to have cut their losses and aren't bothering to release patches or provide proper support for all it's issues. It feels like a blatant cash grab at this point.
Project Cars 2 however has 1,688 players playing the game worldwide
At present, there are 5x as many people playing Project CARS2, than there are people playing Project CARS3. If you want a better game and a better racing experience, pick up PCARS2, it's only $9.99 right now.
Otherwise, if you're interested in a true racing simulation:
Assetto Corsa: 5,520 peak in the last 24 hours
Assetto Corsa Competizioned: 2,960 peak in the last 24 hours
rFactor 2: 1,102 peak in the last 24 hours
Answer: As a dead horse.
