I've never had a match where I was alone vs bots.
It gives some comfort to EA purchases knowing that worse case, if the community died completely, you'd still be able to play the game if you wished.
And sometimes it is just nice to play games solo a few rounds to get the feel of things before jumping into multiplayer.
Right now this is not an option. As you said, though, if the multiplayer died completely, you would still be playing single player with bots. Right now there are plenty of real players. So, either way, you have nothing to lose buying the game, especially on sale!
