Backed this on Kickstarter because the demo was good and it seemed like it had potential. The dev pushed the game live in a really buggy and borderline incomplete state. No subtitles, dialogue plays at varying volumes, very obvious clipping and loading errors, unfinished skyboxes, and allusions to mechanics that aren't in the game anymore.

Also if you die enough times before the first savepoint, you have to start a New Game with unskippable cutscenes. Or maybe you don't, I don't know, when I died enough times my lantern said 0 and i was allowed to walk around the spawn room for a bit before I was abruptly kicked to the main menu. I have no idea if that was intended or not, this game is too broken for me to be sure.

I really hope this game gets patched to be in a better stat but currently I cannot recommend it even at this low of a price.

Okay so when I first started this game I’m not going to lie. I nearly uninstalled and gave up (Narrator likes to test your patience). HOWEVER, once I got past the first part, things got MUCH better. A beautiful ghostly piano solo came on, and the tower become much more adventure friendly, allowing me to pick and choose areas to try, so I could come back to a difficult one later (LAVA ROCK JUMPING – pain in the A**!).

Apart from the starting area, I loved how much variety there was within the game. Some areas were covered in green lush trees with little mice running around, whilst others were streams of lava, or a dark underground cave full of water with a full blown pirate ship to explore. There’s also a talking dragon which was cool.
I saw after playing that a lot of players were complaining about bugs, but the only one I ever found throughout my entire play-through was getting stuck on something (which I managed to get myself free after a few seconds) - Although I only started playing as of the latest update yesterday, so either I was really lucky, or the update fixed them?

I cannot really say much about the story without spoiling anything, but if you pay attention (I did not on my first play through: lost all my lives and had to restart) the story actually is really interesting. I suggest you turn down the music and sfx so you can better hear Fate.

Pros
+ Great atmosphere.
+ Interesting story.
+ Sound / music were extremely well done.
+ Strong voice acting.
+ Animation was really good (although the lantern was a bit wonky sometimes).
+ GOOD ENDING (I was surprisingly not left disappointed, I’m currently re-playing for the second ending).
+ You get to control a MOUSE (Obvious pro).
+ CHEAP (I’d have paid $10 maybe $15 for what I got).

Cons
- I sometimes got a little lost, and a map would have been nice.
- Some areas force you to die to progress, which felt a little UNFAIR to TAKE one of my precious lives. (Although after the starting area, there’s lots of lives you can find to replenish your reserves).
- Awful tedious start, the first puzzle is more of a waiting game, you’re sent back to over and over if you die. (It was fun once, but ONLY once.) [UPDATE: During my current play through this seems to have been updated so you don’t have to keep doing it!!].
- The valves are a bit clunky to turn, I was nearly doing a 360 with my mouse.
- Whilst the game saves your progress, loading takes you back to the main hall rather than back to where you were, it would have been nice to load exactly where you left off. It takes less than a minute to get to where you were, but it was still irritating).
- Fate skips dialog if you complete an area too quickly.
- There’s a grim reaper dude that has a lantern shop. Which is not very obvious, I kept walking past it, and it would have been nice to find it sooner – I found it more than half way through. I really wish I had a particular lantern much closer to the start. (Get his key for the chest, you won’t regret it).

Final thoughts:
The game takes around 3 hours to complete. Apart from the beginning, and a few frustrating moments, I really enjoyed this.
All in all, for a small indie game, I'd say this is certainly worth playing, especially for the price.

This is definitely more of a puzzle game than a horror, and often frustrating. It doesn't need to be easier puzzles, just more checkpoints. However, it was definitely worth the playthrough for the price and has a interesting story. It wasn't GREAT, but it definitely wasn't bad either.

Game itself is presenting you challenges which you'll probably fail on 1st/2nd/3rd/... time - that in itself is not bad, sometimes even funny but it gets old and boring pretty quickly. Especially when you have VERY FEW checkpoints in whole game so you play big chunks of game over and over again. Good idea, bad execution -- check cons&pros below.

- Narrator (woman) is trying to be funny&witty but is mostly annoying/b_tchy. Also sometimes she's screaming at you for whatever reason pretty loud.
- Movement is slugish and imprecise, especially jumping - it will lead to few of your deaths for sure.
- Game is too dark, but not in the good/mysterious way - you can't see sh_t even with lantern bumped to max in some rooms.
- Ultrawide display FOV is weirdly low so you feel like you have blinders on your eyes.
- Audio mix is bad - extra loud random sounds (bridge crashing etc), voice volume is quite low (especially considering it's supposed to be narrative experience).
- There are still bugs and graphical glitches (played version 1.07).

Wasted potential. Not worth the time/money.

The game has nice graphics and atmosphere. Sound and music work really well for the ambiance. The story is interesting, but the game is a little tricky. Worth a try.

Not all indie horror games can boast a creepy atmosphere and high-quality graphics. Tower of Fate is a completely different game in which the developer has put a lot of effort and patience. The atmosphere and selected sound effects are intimidating and further inflate the situation of the tower. Puzzles are interesting, but with each completed puzzle become more difficult. Can you reach the end of the tower? That's what you're going to find out.

It was fine I guess. I really don't think many, if any, assets were original. The controls are kind of weird, but you get used to them, but the main thing is it's so infuriating, there are just some parts that glitch the hell out and you die and then now you gotta restart. Sometimes it kills you just because.

The game came out in a very rough state and at this time a bit more still needs to be done, but the developer is constantly taking our feed back and giving the game the frequent updates it needs, the voice acting and sounds really fits the atmosphere and the setting. So in respective of this yes the game came out in a poor state but it is at least receiving the care it needs with many people helping to notify the developer to iron out the bugs, most of witch have been patched out already.

Worst of the 4 games that played by Barry McCabe. Other 3 were pretty good. Boogeyman 1+2 and Frosty Nights.
I didn't really enjoy the puzzles but game has a nice atmosphere.

Really did not like this.
For starters the difficulty settings are not explained at all. And given their cryptic name I couldn't even tell if I was playing at easy or hard.
In the half hour I played it was an exercise in frustration, and most of the game seems to revolve around waiting until the narrator in your head finishes speaking. Or dying, and then doing something different after you get back to that same point. I died about 4 times, every time returned to the very start. And the very first puzzle I encountered every single time was "pick a door, but not just any door, wait till I've finished speaking, and then go through the door I tell you. Also it's not the same every time" Absolutely no challenge, no fun, no engagement or horror whatsoever and the narrator was fast grating on me. I also experienced clipping issues where I couldn't even mount the steps to the first puzzle initially and I thought this was just a silly invisible wall and I had to go round it and head towards the tower.
This later proved to not be the case so I had to walk all the way back which was just an exercise in frustration. I had to walk as the run button seemed bugged, likely because I switched it's key in the config menu on startup. But then I put it back to the original key and it still wouldn't work. But then seemed to start working after I'd gone through a level transition.
Just all in all buggy and it seems like it hates the player.
To be fair to the game it does mention that in the description but this is beyond ridiculous. Avoid.
