In Game Collectables/Unlockables (kudos 2 RoughRider :D)
Description of the matter
You finish a level, or you do something whacky or somethings very challenging = you earn 'Collectable'. Suggested by Rider

The Statement
...Its a very good idea. But then again - we have Steam Achievements already and when I hear 'collectable' I think 'Pip-Boys' from Fallout 3/NV. Which besides looking nice on the shelf - are also giving you bonuses.

The Problem
The moment anything starts giving you bonuses - the game gains RPG elements. And in a game with realistic cars + realistic physics - we could as good as put magic in it rotfl. I don't want that. OR maybe I misunderstood what Rider suggested? Rider elaborate please :D

The Solution
You guy come here and start arguing. Meanwhile I'll be sitting in the corner making notes. Then I'll take all those notes and take it to the rest of the team for brainstorming and if someone needs medical assistance (after arguing) I'll be calling 911. How about that? <3

Ready, set - go!
Voice your opinion! :D

Hmm ... my thoughts ... cosmetic stuff rather than perks/buffs

Bumper stickers for the areas completed. 1 per each vehicle used to complete an area.

BubbleHeads for the dash if you do something whacky. Or something else whacky; aerial flag, fluffy dice, nodding dog.

Challenging ... maybe an optional special paint scheme for the vehicle used to complete said tuff challenge. Or some kind of big challenge sticker to stick on the vehicle.

I'm talking about vehicle addons as far as unlockables. I feel Vehicle customization should be a priority, but also it will make people in your game want to keep playing to get whatever addon or wheelset that they want. You very well could go the rpg"ish" route and unlock things that benefit performace IE: larger wheels and tires, snorkel for water depth, chains for tires, horsepower increases, better bumpers or exocages to prevent damage. I don't think that would make this a bad game, But All i truly want is customization, and I would want it with performance enhancements or simply just cosmetic elements that make the game more enjoyable and give me a reason to play.

If you go the route of vehicle upgrades like better tyres, suspention, axles, engines and wintches etc... you need to balance them out with a negative effects, like using more fuel, increased weight or slower speeds. RPG stuff that the Dev's have said they don't want.

IMHO ... without balance, just adding positive upgrades moves away from it being a simulation, into being more of an arcade game.

Elements of customization would be nice for things like ride height, suspension stiffness etc or cosmetic changes that wont have a major effect on the ability of the vehicle.

I don't want RPG elements in Ultra Off-Road. But I don't mind adjustments. As long as they are physics/mechanical based.

Tyre pressure (grip / stability)
Different tyres (grip / CoG)
Wheel chains (girp)
Suspension rate / ride height (stability / CoG)
Engine capacity/power (tourque / speed)
Snorkel (less engine damage)
Heavy duty axles / transfer box (tourque / speed / weight)
Winch (tourque / power)
Exo-cage (less damage / weight / stability / CoG)
Heavy duty bumpers (less damage / weight)
Roof rack (weight / CoG / load capacity)

All these would effect the physics / mechanical aspecs of the vehicle, and most would require some form of cosmetic change to the vehicle.

So what's good and bad, from a development point of view?

What do you think about additional challenges such as driving the entire route using only one differential lock (front or back), passing without using a winch, no damage to the vehicle, etc.
for which it will be possible to earn the above mentioned- purely cosmetic additional parts

As a nod to Dirt Rally, they have an acheivement called "I Am the 5%" ... complete the rally only using the headcam. Something similar could be given for completing a challenge only in First Person.

Some of them are already implemented. Some of them are waiting for players to test drive. But I've made a backup of your whole post. Good stuff. I forwarded it whole to the rest of the team. Thank you Paul :D

That's actually our ideas too hehe. We do are using Steam Achievements API, but its also all in-build into the game. So regardless what platform are you playing Ultra Off-Road on - in-game achievements will be there.

How about this like dirt rally? You could unlock things as you complete certain challenges in the game but for this to be interesting its got to be added over time so player feel they got things to look forward too. So perhaps a career mode like in dirt rally?
