This game is way to difficult

I dont get why this game is so hard. I tried to play it couch co op with my girlfried which is a huge magical girl geek. I sold it to her as a cozy experience since she's not used to use a controller when playing video games (she usually plays on her phone).
Turns out it wasnt cozy at all. We didnt even got through the first level. I tried to beat it later on my own and also failed to do so.

I'm baffled about this cause I dont think there is a reason why this game is so hard. This is not supposed to be Dark Souls. I didnt even find any difficulty sliders.

If you're designing a game for couch co op you have to have in mind that a huge variety of different skill levels and video game backgrounds can sit next to each other and I feel like setups like that werent even tested by the developers of this game.
