There is no one easiest combo but I'd recommend Gnome Necromancer or Ogre Barbarian.

ranger and rogue are definitely the easier classes for me, they have OP abilities that synergize with each other (although their own base abilities are more than enough to beat the game, getting one of the other "tree" helps a lot).

Ice mage can be a bit slow to start but once you get it rolling you can beat the game easily, it was the first class that I beat the game with after struggling with everything else

As for race it's definitely depending on the class that you play, gnome is great for both ranger/rogue as well as for most mage classes, melee classes struggle a bit with the low strength and HP but once you get fortitude you can patch that weakness, it's a glass cannon so anything ranged works well

same with Fairy that pairs great with Ro/Ra but struggles with melee

the mummy is amazing once you learn to read encounters but no pots definitely can make you struggle and misjudging an encounter makes it an auto loss sometimes

Going from my numbers I have a 4-0 on vampire rogue, there are a few others that I never lost but are at 1-0, since I won with human ice mage I won two times more in a row, my fairy rogue is 9-4 and at some point I went for all the badges so there are a few losses due to going fast, I don't think I've lost more than one or two games taking it slow and thinking it over

Ice Mage is definitely op, that was my first win with a Gnome. Freeze works on bosses which is completely bonkers. I think Necro is even safer though between skellies and life drain. It's difficult to fail as a Necro unless you make a silly mistake whereas Ice Mage can more easily fail in fire damage-heavy maps, which are very common between Iron Forge, Core, Arcane Tower, and cannons/etc in the final areas.

Rogue is up there too though.

Ranger doesn't have a reliable way to deal with incoming ranged damage without tomes/gear, and can become overwhelmed more easily vs other classes. I'd definitely recommend Rogue first to a newer player if they want to use a bow.

Enchanter has always been easiest for me because once you get Dominate it is super easy to take the heat off yourself with a horde of minions. Gnome is good for any magic class but harder starting out due to low HP.
Gnome + any mage is more or less easy mode.

Gnome gets the the best racial bonus of +skill damage and by the time you get to the last boss you can kill him in 3-4 spells.
Very true.

Though I probably wouldn't recommend a Gnome Storm Mage for a new player. They're the only mage without any pets or hp shield, so they can potentially get screwed by RNG and be too squishy.
Gnome summoner is by far my favorite
