What does FD mean?

I just started playing, and in the top bar, it shows FD: 19/20 in red background. What is this, please?

This game really needs some more explanation of what everything does and the mechanics of the user interface.

It took me a while to figure it out - this is the "Food bar" (I think it should be named "hunger"). When it reachs zero, you start dying. Just search for some meat every floor and eat it when the bar is almost empty.

I imagine a description screen is on the guy's to-do list.

Personally, I wait until I'm at half health, while starving and taking damage from hunger, before eating food. That way I get just a tad bit more use out of it.

Thank you! I only found one meat, and I was at death's door on level 3 or 4, losing hit points as I finally found some food. I hope food isn't always so rare.
