The "objective" is technically to uncover the mystery of why, how and by whom your former sect was destroyed. But many ignore it or just rush it with a guide as it's really more of a minor part of the game. The real fun is in the sect building, growing your cultivators, sacrificing mortals and eventually conquering the world. There's plenty of heavily complex and (literally) esoteric mechanics to figure out, which is something I really enjoy.
Highly replayable, just like Rimworld.
;)
But in your place i would try pirate version first to test taste and then decided to buy or not. Personally me bought the game after that youtube video above. Cos i like numbers to growth thats ultimate drug for me like coockieclicker.
in this game allows me to have my superhero or this case a cultivator it basically runs everything and everybody serves it so I focus all my resources into making a super badass
also cuz I have characters I feel like I care about I don't start a new game every time I play like I do in rimworld does it get bored of it fast cuz I don't feel attached to any of my colonists which makes me not attached to the Colony in this game I feel attached to all the characters I'm working on so I keep playing so I keep my sect running
I've been playing a lot of Dwarf Fortress and it doesn't haves a tech tree at all.
ACS, on the other hand, haves a lot of different technique trees which pleases me.
