in the build menu under the tab "area" you can make a pasture, you can than assign animals to that pasture, while assigned to a pasture the animal will try to stay in there, they will auto eat grass from the ground, not sure how they do it if you build the pasture on mud.
You can manually feed them, sometimes when they get sick you might want to feed them ginko fruit or something like that. from time to time a outer disciple will give them water (not sure if that is assigned to the farming or peon skill)
I have no idea how to keep it happy but its a panda so maybe build a small field with bamboo next to the pasture? like i said, i dont really know how animal happiness works.
To be honest i kill most of my pets (unless they die of negligence first)
Awakened animals on the other hand. I had a chicken who wanted to be near wheat, and a cat who wanted to be inside. I'm... not exactly sure what fulfilling those preferences does though.
To the cats are some of the easiest to achive, let them be in your sect that way they wont die from the winter cold and be happy indoor.
