-you max qi (make sure your qi is full before starting)
-you Qi protect (how much damage each qi point take), up to 20/20 (don't need that much unless you are doing it with like 20k qi) on your inspiration + dark armor talisman + turtle shell + taiyi sect scroll equiped
you should also drop your artifact as your qi protect don't affect your artifact, unless your artifact qi recharge multiplier is way higher than your qi protect, which shouldn't be the case unless you are doing weird shenanigans.
That artifact one seems like a pretty important point. I'm moderately irritated that the game doesn't seem to actually indicate this anywhere. Both of my primordial spirits this run just died to seemingly easy tribulations, and from what you said it sounds like it's because one had four artifacts on and the other had one crappy one.
Rationally you would think, that having 600k qi plus (300k qi)X4 would be better than just having the 600k.
This is pissing me off. The aforementioned primordial spirit with the four artifacts also went deep into filling out their shield, which did them no good at all apparently, because I had the absurd idea that a sword cultivator should probably have their ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sword out for their tribulation.
So. Does that mean that my qi shield attachments that I had on my artifacts are literally worthless?
the drop artifact strat is a good beginner start (aka tanking start), but you can definitly do tribulation with them (which you want for demi god tribulation to give them permanent bonus), but they'll need to be good and you need to have a good amount of artifact power to make the qi cost worth it and if possible some qi recharge multiplier to get more artifact qi out of each of your own qi point.
here is clark guide for detail about surviving tribulation :

ps : about artifact, i already wrote that somewhere else but, Max artifact Qi is a trap, you don't want that but instead high attack power and low max qi.
This. Qi for your artifacts gets siphoned from your cultivator when the artifact runs out, so having more is more of a drain when they stop working. If you had four artifacts with 300k qi for instance, you are bringing 1200k additional to the fight, but will need to refill all of that when they lose all theirs, so when two artifacts fail, you then will soon have zero qi on your cultivator as they recharge, and are basically defenseless thereafter.
So artifacts with smaller pools and high power tend to work better, and there's some merit to a single very powerful artifact as well.
