I just make a normal brown stone or marble room that's very auspisious and leave it at that.
Having a room set up with the right elements for an inner disciple (which fyi is bed of their element, decorations of the begetting element; you can use spirit stone blocks which are neutral element, for walls and such if you want to make an aparment block/something you can switch in and out new disciples without tearing down the whole structure) isn't a bad idea, since even with assigned cushions they will sometimes still use their bed for cultivating, but when it comes to making a room perfect for breakthroughs and forming Golden Cores, it's usually better (and more aesthetically pleasing) to make special rooms for that kind of thing once you unlock qi mats since it will mean you only need one spot surrounded with displays and decorations for each element rather than each inner disciple's room be massive and/or look like a hoarder lives there to get best chances there.
