Illuminated objects. What do I do with them?

In my first gameplay I got an illuminated gate, but I didnt know what to do with it and the information I found about illuminated objects was a bit.. overwhelming. I ended up feeding the gate different objects to try and balance its elements as evenly as possible.

This gameplay in a new colony I've just found an illuminated ginkgo fruit in my storage. Im leaning towards eating it just to see what happens, but after that, what am I to do with these objects?

Questions:
1. Should I feed them?
2. Why should I feed them?
3. What element do I want to feed them?
4. How long does it take?
5. What is your favourite colour?

The guide Draken posted is the best resource. The short is that you want them to devoured items with elements, until 3 elements are over 75% at the least and 2 elements are below 10% at the most, keeping in mind the elements wheel. Once that's done have one of your Cultivators cast the miracle that turns them human/the item should have the ability to turn human.

I got an Illuminated Egg of yang (dead). It suddenly appeared in my map as dead so I dont know if I can still make it into a cultivator. The actions I can do are (devour/freeze/excavate/demolish). It also moves around sometimes
can you help with that if possible

I got 4 illuminated objects but one broke down for after moving it anyway one of it is a spear which gives realy cool comments from time to time but i wonder if i can get other boni from him because only 1 element makes sence in this setting in western games it would be nice to have more damage attributes??

Haha ofcourse you can turn them into cultivators because why wouldn't that the case?

haha, I just got an "Illuminated Veiled Lamp". Figured it was some kind of in-game pun and had to check the forums to see what it was about.

There was one non-ironman run that rolled a illuminated phoenix egg that wouldnt ever hatch into a phoenix. It had an option to, essentially, search it for parts, presumably killing/destroying it. Also netted that run some excellent fire items and phoenix feathers and flesh.

I got it too and excavated it. Got me some dragon meat and dragon scales.
