English Translation
I'd like to know how the translation is coming along and if there is any chance to be part of the english beta.

That aside people probably mentioned it but the main issue about english at least with the mod is the really small font and overall menus that are too small to fit the translated words in english.

They're trying to release a more complete product. But an English translation is already on the works with a decent amount of people assisting. So be patient! For now, you can use the English mod.

Naturally, i know that. Its just a matter about how a company works together with its community. And it feels like the company ignores the non-chinese part of the community, so i assumed they will ignore us too, till they did their own thing with the english translation - which isnt a bad thing, but i dont like this way to do it.

So is the Zhongguo, young fellow. We have to accept what we cannot change and endure the trial with patience.

;-)

Personally, I miss so many things, in the game I'm in, that I would rather pause the game, rather than sabotage my own progress, by making bad choices, or choices that I do not understand, for lack of correct translation on too many parts of the game.

They're not used to doing things the way Western companies do. Steam is odd to them I think.
From what I can say easily though is that they're nervous with their western customers (Which is reasonable given the type of game) and the lack of chinese culture understood over here.

They are very active on Discord answering questions (not immediately due to time differences with some people) but they do answer them. And from what I understand, they have 1 person (?) (Don't quote me on this, I'm making an educated guess from what I've heard) in charge of the Steam page, and I imagine they have more than just that as part of their job.

But I will let them know that those not on discord (in the steam forums) would appreciate it if they'd interact more on here. I won't guarantee anything, but I'll at least let them know.

Well, to be honest, i havent found the one responcible for the english part of discord yet. Most are just regular customers like us, with 1 or 2 moderators that also dont know more than us.
Okairo 21 Thg07, 2020 @ 11:06am
For the english mod, that's Sennek. For the dev's... that's an in Discord question and before I actively release they're discord names, I'll have to ask them if it's fine to point them out. (For a lot of reasons)

I think steam is actually the most popular pc platform for chinese gaming now. So i highly doubt they are unfamiliar with steam.

I'm currently in the alpha test it's going to be awhile before it's going to be public
but if things keep going well there's a good possibility it will be available before this year is done
it depends on how the next updates turn out

lol, that could be really hard, there are so many words that can never be translated to English owing to the cultural reasons in usual occasions, but i believe there will always come some way to translate that to be useful in different cultural situations. so maybe we should just wait for or help developer find someone who has both the great skills of English and good understanding of Chinese culture, and i am now so sleepy :steambored:

Wow, really, Chinese can't read Western fantasy then. So many words that can't be translated to Chinese because of culturial reasons...

It's not like Wuxia films was translated to English for 20 years, and there is hundreds of fan translated books and manhuas and some official translations in the mix...

Lets be honest: There is nothing, that cant be translated from one human language to another - human languages are too similar in that regard. Metaphores and a big number of meanings make it harder, but it's definitely possible. Also, english is part of the chinese curriculum, so i assume at least the younger generation can more or less understand english (its also similar in e.g. germany, where i live).
Ancamarth 22 Thg07, 2020 @ 6:22pm
Sometimes I just think it offends some Chinese that one of the most esoteric things about their culture can be "genuinely" understood by a Western foreigner.

Therefore, there would be a sort of emptiness to try to translate, because others could not really understand (or must not !).

As if there was a fierce side, not to let yourself be understood so easily, as if to be understood, in what is most intrinsically Chinese, it amounts to admitting that you are not so complicated.

It's a kind of mixture of pride, shyness, and such human denial! It's a bit childish, but that's how it is.

Having said that, I am willing to admit that whole sections of cultivation philosophy cannot be easily integrated by outsiders.
But, hey! it is only a matter of translating a video game, to understand its mechanisms.
It's not as if the video game actually reflects the esoteric Chinese philosophy in its entirety ...

As if intangible China should not be understood, or be the subject of a vulgar translation (in the literary sense of the term), so as not to transmit its essence to those who do not deserve it.

It would be so much wiser to smile calmly in front of all these Chinese culture enthusiasts, who imagine that by reading translations, we can understand what it really is.

But let these little derivative products open a door, that's all.
It is. Just. A. Game.
Damnit.
radkid10 22 Thg07, 2020 @ 10:01pm
they're going to translate the game there's already an alpha test which I'm apart of I cannot give any more information than that cuz of a disclosure agreement

right now their focus is bug fixing next is the translation and Bug fixing related to the translation and fixing grammar errors I cannot reveal when the next test will be

I do recommend hopping on the Discord there's a small chance you might actually get to participate in the next test cuz I think they're going to probably want to look for some more people the speed up the process a bug fixing and fixing grammar problems

BTW radkid, how did the NDA go? Was it a traditional postal one or a digital one? Last time i was part of a NDA-using beta ~10 years ago, it was a written postal one.
