Controller support.
I was already to pick up this game and encourage development when I noticed "NO CONTROLLER SUPPORT". Without controller support this is a firm PASS on the game. In today's world every game should have controller support. Will it have support in the future ?

it will have some controller support, but i doubt it will ever be controller only. i plan to revisit this when i get a hold of the steam deck.

Now... how do you want controller support on this game? I actually wonder because for how it works I have to say it would be weird.

I was thinking the same - how controller is suppose to work in Astrox when the game is build around mouse + kbd in mind from the very beginning. Even the basic kbd controls for ship movement (when they are presented) are there just for flavor.

maybe use joy2key or such like?
but would still be weird. Not all games need or benefit from controller support an IMO this is one game that falls into that catergory.
Try playing Eve Online with a controller, it would be just impossible.

Nearly 400 hours in and I agree.....it's weird.

Gamepad to fly and keyboard for shortcuts/functions, D pad for sub-menu navigation, A confirm, B back.

Buttons can be hold for "shift-like" functions.

I play X games this way, and they are enjoyable on the big screen + couch.

Shameless Necro, I know.

I'll re-necro this to say this would be the absolute perfect game to kick back with a wireless controller and wireless headset to just relax and zone out

Looks like this is a dead request.... I would play this game but want joystick axis mapping support. I just hate mouse and keyboard space games.. I just can't get into them. Hopefully one day this may make it into the game. You did such a wonderful job to support my 8k monitor... wow this looks so good!!!!! Please joystick... Please...

Dual Joystick device mapping would be preferred.

virpil stick one - throttle and roll with various button mapping
Virpil stick two - pitch and yaw with various button mapping.

Again thanks.

This game is not a flight simulator game

It's also not software to optimally unload TEUs.

It doesn't need to be a flight simulator to have controller support. The truth is, more and more PC gamers are choosing to recline like kings and queens while they play, rather than sit at a desk like a kid in primary school.

I prefer using a gamepad in the vast majority of games I play. It's comfortable, and with the Steam Input layer, completely configurable. I will never belittle someone for preferring controllers.

But...

This game is very clearly designed entirely for mouse and keyboard use only. As someone who tries their best to build their own custom steam controller and steam deck layouts for almost every game, I just can't imagine this game working with a gamepad. _Everything_ about the game is mouse-driven. You can probably get by with a setup mapping the right stick/pad to mouse movement, and some radial menus to make menu-switching easier, but that's probably the best you'll get. Even with my best attempts at clever control mapping wizardry, this game is painfully frustrating to play or even stream on my Steam Deck.

The game would need its UI completely rebuilt from scratch in order to accommodate built-on controller navigation, and I am pretty certain that that will never happen, given the game seems to by all appearances have been abandoned. If you are holding out for built-in controller support, don't hold your breath.
