Kerbal Space Program 2

Kerbal Space Program 2

Why does nobody like KSP2?
I've seen videos of KSP and I have been wanting to get it for a while now. However looking at the reviews it seems like many people hate it and don't want others to purchase it, also all of the reviews are not very clear (to me at least) on why I should not get it. Why EXACTLY is it a bad game?

Take Two Interactive Software (the publisher) closed the studio (Private Division and Intercept Games) and sold the intellectual property. (KSP2's name, assets, code, everything)

First paragraph of Wikipedia article lays it out:
Originally posted by https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerbal_Space_Program_2:
Development for a new KSP game was given by Take-Two Interactive in 2017 with an initial release date of 2020, but many issues in the development process resulted in the game being delayed many times, with an early access version becoming available on Steam on February 24, 2023. Following the shutdown of Intercept Games, which was accompanied by developer layoffs and the sale of Private Division by Take-Two, the current status of development is unknown as of March 2025.

This "alpha-test" quality level release is not anticipated to ever receive any updates, unless the buyer of the KSP intellectual property (Annapurna interactive) elect to take a stab at it. They, however, have a lot on their plate at the moment, and aren't exactly the strongest of studios.

The real problem is, Take Two Interactive lied to everyone about the whole situation.

Save your money. While this game isn't dead, it's unlikely to be developed to a fully playable state as depicted in the "roadmap" on the store page in any reasonable time frame.

Because it is a clone of the first KSP with less features and much more bugs.
It is only superior when it comes to music and sound design.
KSP2 also features better graphics but KSP1 with mods isn't far behind.

Thus better play KSP1 and ignore this title.
Especially with mods KSP1 offers the much better experience.
cant we just mod ksp 2 ?

There is a difference between spending your modding to improve a great game you love and allowing a company to continue to profit from a rug-pull.

Its a buggy prettier cosplay of KSP 1. if KSP 1 didnt exist maybe i would like this but.... if i sit b4 the computer i would start KSP 1 everyday cause im not in for having a bug kill my mission halfway just for some fancy graphics

Cant you just mod KSP1?
I dunno, there are already people doing modding so that should answer that question, but the thing is, why buy KSP2 and mod it to be good, when you can get KSP1 for cheaper and feature complete, and mod that instead? Much more popular too.

when you say popular you mean what? :) Both games lost so much after the ksp disaster. Ksp 2 completely died, while ksp 1 is just dead. Harsh as it sounds you cant say its popular, its just less of a dead disaster than ksp 2 is. KSP in general is dead for most people, only few enthusiast remain until KSA comes out

3000 concurrent player peak vs 158, KSP1 compared to KSP2.
I guess compared to things like Fortnite, yeah 3k is "dead", but tbh it's still a considerable amount of people. To the question, it makes very little sense to invest into modding KSP2 when you could do that with KSP1.

Considering it's concurrent players has been around the average of 4k-5k for nearly the entire decade its been out and the only spikes are when it launched as 1.0, when the DLCs came out, and when there were sales.. I'd say it still having 3k being fairly solid. Also that loss of around 1k - 2k of concurrent players was primarily as a result of KSP2 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ on the community and ripping it apart and many people haven't gone back to KSP1, myself included since I've moved on to playing other things in my backlog.

KSP2 however,... now that is dead. The only people playing it now are the 158 hopium addled minds that overdosed inhaling a a massive 200 cubic feet of hopium tank all in one go last May and they are still trying to see if they can build a colony on the mun.
Jus saying, purely based on player count, it makes so much more sense to mod KSP1 than KSP2. If the point made here is that 3k peak is too dead to be worth modding, then KSP2 is super dead.

Yeah, I was concurring with your sentiment; and noting that it has been around that 4k - 5k concurrent for the decade+ that KSP has been out. It lost around 1k - 2k of that regular player count, which is significant as a percentage but averaging 3k now isn't "dead" by any means compared to the entirety of the games life thus far; and people are still actively modding it. Reality isn't quite what Bpat seems to think it is.

Thanks everyone for the help! I could not figure out how to view this until now so I bought KSP 1 before viewing the comments and it is really fun! I'll learn how to mod to make KSP look a bit more modern. Thanks everyone!
I can't speak for everyone, but for myself - I liked KSP2, but went back to 1.

Why? Because as everyone knows T2 screwed us and killed the franchise.
(And now I'll probably never buy another T2 title again out of spite, because I love my lil green kerbalnauts, kittens are *** and hokey, and I'm waiting to see where another game ends up.)

It's been sold to some investment company who will probably do jack with it as so many software / IP sales go, including many of my past favorites.

This means I'll never see any of the promised content which for god knows why, is still being sold as in in dev alpha on steam.. Also means no more updates for KSP1, which, fortunately, is mostly bug free but still often problematic - still incredible hours of fun... and I've been going in and out of ksp1 since That one was in alpha.. including the demo version lol
