At this point, yes. Tonnes of mods for KSP 1 including interstellar planets and travel.

Well, KSP1 exists, for starters...
KSP 1 is just better as a base game and with the amount of DLC/mods it has. Though I do wish KSP 2 gets farther, KSP 1 is fun with heavy mods, but something about KSP 2s science mode just feels a lot more satisfying overall. Landing also has a real purpose, even if it is to pregenerated sites, that's something KSP 1 doesn't have.

Can't recommend KSP 2 though until we see what T2 plans.

both are unfinished games, but ksp2 is more unfinished, at least ksp1 has most of the bugs and performance issues ironed out, and many more mods, don't expect a good experience from a random mishmash of mods though.

KSP1 is better. The base game is fine for a first playthrough; I wouldn't recommend using any mods that affect gameplay your first time through, beyond KER (Kerbal Engineer Redux) to put whatever infomation about your ship and orbit you care about where you want it on screen.

If you use visual mods, they can take a very long time to load, but there's a community patch that help a ton with that, and fixes a few lingering bugs.

Ultimately, KSP1 has more content than KSP2, and it's very hard to find game-breaking bugs. There are memory leaks that can make the game crash after a while, and overlapping parts during construction can cause ships to occasionally kersplode, but otherwise it's pretty solid these days.

KSP1 is orders of magnitude better. As Skorj said try to avoid mods until you have a good grasp of the game. Then download and use ckan from GitHub to install mods and enjoy some nice quality of life improvements.

Yes, it seems like KSP 2 is actually abandoned

You can play a science campaign in both and KSP2 has the better presentation. To a super casual, I'd recommend the second one, despite it being abandoned.

If you are in any way shape or form serious about KSP, you gotta go with the modding scene of KSP1.

KSP1 is better. KSP2 just looks and sounds better.

KSP1 is about space. KSP2 is about nate simpson's art.

This should be the accepted answer

Be aware that KSP1 will need to be modded for some basic stuff - like sound effects. The modding community is mostly made up of good people, though a lot of modders have moved on, so some mods will not get bug fixes, etc.

KSP1 with RP-1 mod is GOLD.
What is very nice for space enthusiasts also is "Mars Horizon". Different to KSP of course, but worth a look.
