Wait for KSP1 to be on a sale.
Ckan is a tool to install and manage mods.
Can't recommend KSP 2 though until we see what T2 plans.
If you use visual mods, they can take a very long time to load, but there's a community patch that help a ton with that, and fixes a few lingering bugs.
Ultimately, KSP1 has more content than KSP2, and it's very hard to find game-breaking bugs. There are memory leaks that can make the game crash after a while, and overlapping parts during construction can cause ships to occasionally kersplode, but otherwise it's pretty solid these days.
Yes, it seems like KSP 2 is actually abandoned
If you are in any way shape or form serious about KSP, you gotta go with the modding scene of KSP1.
KSP1 is better. KSP2 just looks and sounds better.
What is very nice for space enthusiasts also is "Mars Horizon". Different to KSP of course, but worth a look.
