Kerbal Space Program 2

Kerbal Space Program 2

Current state how is it?
I've never actually played kerbal space program before but I like the idea of building a rocket and stuff for space, I saw they had a new update which seems to open up the game a lot more then before. At its current state of early access how do you guys feel about it? Is it worth grabbing or should I wait for a few more patches to iron it out?

Its still pretty rough. Its playable more often than not after the science update, but there's still plenty of mission ending bugs floating about, waiting to strike - If the idea of losing a couple hours of gameplay to your rocket deciding physics no longer applies is something you can handle, there is fun to be found.

That being said, if you never played KSP? I would recommend the first one. Right now, its the more feature complete experience - More ship parts, more gameplay mechanics and features, more stability, and more ways to play. And if you're so inclined, the modding scene is extremely matured and easy to get into. KSP2 currently only beats the first game in graphics, everything else is parity or inferior, until the Colonies update comes out - With the current update speeds, its not unreasonable to assume Late 2024 for that.

And if you're really just excited about the interstellar and colony items on the KSP2 roadmap? KSP1 modded has both those covered - Particularly the Near Future Interstellar mod in KSP1 is so good that the developer was hired into KSP2 to do their interstellar engines, so you're not missing out :P

its still very early in development so unless you are prepared to deal with bugs and unfinished content i would wait or just buy the first one instead. ksp1 is far more feature complete the 2 right now and has a massive modding community. ksp2 looks prettier but doesn't do anywhere near as much yet. i would recommend getting them both, ksp1 to play and ksp2 to have for when its better.

rough around the edges, but at least playable compared to initial release.
don't be surprised to see a bunch of bugs. UI is a bit clunky in places. saves are your friend more than usual, just because of weird bugs.

It's decent. You can get away with simple gameplay while only encountering a few bugs. More complex and longevity missions are difficult to complete without hitting any sort of major bug. Some can be worked around while others may require reloading or having to restart your flight.

It has had massive improvements since february, now there are less bugs. Overall it is worth it.

Though there are still some bugs.

If there was no KSP1, I would recommend KSP2 now as it is quite fun, but buggy in its current state. But KSP1 is a fully developed game with strong mod support while KSP2 is in early access. KSP 1 costs about 1/5 the cost of KSP 2. So I'd recommend getting KSP 1 for now and eventually buying KSP2 when it gets a step or two further down the roadmap and has features that KSP1 base game doesn't.
