I also wait until this game gets to a point that surpasses KSP1 before buying it. But I guess it'll be a long wait sadly.
I don't know exactly how bad it was at launch, because i didn't play it then. I waited a couple months and a sale to buy it.
But as of right now? Any rocket that doesn't immediately implode on the launch pad is wobbly as ♥♥♥♥, so you cant efficiently gravity turn even if you do manage to launch. You've got a 30% chance of any staged section still clinging to your rocket.
And one time, once i got into orbit, the game didn't realise the ship was in orbit and refused to show any orbital line, and thus no manoeuvre node. Had to literally edit the game save file in order to tell the game that the ship was, in fact, in orbit. And yes, editing the save file was probably quicker than trying to get another ship into orbit.
Its a turd. The only reason i didn't refund was that, hell, if it ever did become a functioning game i'd only have to buy it again at an even more egregious price. But i'm well aware that my £30 was probably wasted on a turd that will forever be a turd.
The game clearly has bugs, but not all of them are as game breaking as many of the hate-fueld reviews might suggest. In fact most issues can be worked around on just fine until a hotfix or patch fixes these issues. Sadly most people on this forum are not willing to do this, they expect a perfect 10/10 experience because of the 50 bucks price point.
Is this the best game ever made? Hell no, but I personally see that the base game underneath it all has so much potential to be better than KSP 1 will ever be if the devs stick to it. You just have to be willing to accept that development will not be finished in the next few years, otherwise you will not have fun with this game. It's also perfectly valid to just wait and continue to play KSP 1 instead.
Not worth it, its not even a Beta yet.
