yep....but it doesnt pan...it doesnt do anything
Alternatively, click on a part using the scroll wheel (mmb) to center that part in the view. I find this is an easier way to go about things in the current state, since middle mouse dragging is slow and cumbersome.
Do you have another mouse you can try?
You building an aircraft or a rocket?
There is a bug (should be fixed in first patch) not allowing the pan feature to work when VAB is in side-on build mode (the mode used for aircraft).
The easy work around till it is fixed is using the parts focus to lock camera to a part close to where your working.
A middle mouse button (MMB) drag operation occurs in two dimensions, X (left/right) and Y (forward/backward). For me, running KSP2 v0.1.2.0 on Win11 (build 22621.1555), the MMB drag X axis translates the camera position along an arc in the XY plane equidistant from the focused part. This is exactly as I would expect.
However, the MMB drag Y axis translates the camera position Y axis. "Zoom in/out" would be an accurate description. This is identical behavior to the scroll wheel, and this is why I describe this as a bug.
I would expect the MMB drag Y axis to translate the camera position Z axis. Prior to applying the v0.1.2.0 patch, this is how it had been working for me; however, I cannot be certain that this behavior change is caused by the patch.
I've tried two different mice: a Logitech MX Anywhere 2, and an old Kensington 3-button wired mouse. Both use the built-in Microsoft HID-compliant mouse driver.
Arrow keys do nothing at all in the VAB. But they do translate the camera when vehicle is launched.
