The main things I would say have improved is the dynamic music. The water deluge system on the launch pad.
I am extremely disappointed to not see Gene or Werner anywhere.
The UI gives me a lot more information, than the unmodded UI of KSP 1, and with mods you loose track on what you need to know.
Ok, where in KSP2 UI can you adjust the altitude in the VAB engineering report to see the performance values? Also where in the UI can you fine tune control nodes, Where is the ability to move the nav ball. There is much much more information available just in the VAB in stock KSP1 than there is in KSP2's current form.
I agree that they should implement a customisable UI, so every person can remove elements they would not like or use and position those elements they want in the positions they like.
Disagree on the performance mentioned in the OP. I modded KSP 1 with all the graphical enhancements and it didn't miss a beat on my old computer. On my new computer (everything except GPU which is currently still the old one, soon to upgrade) KSP 2 is a slide show.
Biggest thing thats missing for me is the maneuver node editor gizmo they added late in KSP development. The maneuver node control on the orbit line was awful in KSP 1 and it's awful in KSP 2 as well.
It's in the dev notes that performance values for stages and altitude are currently being worked on. And with some math you can calculate it yourself. Stock KSP1 is also still really glitchy in regards to the performance values of each stage, with DV disappearing completely sometimes due to docking port staging... I don't think that's a great example to follow.
The control node fine tuning isn't needed because the nodes aren't nearly as sensitive to begin with. The only thing missing is the numerical input, which should have been in the same tab in the old UI, it was useful but also pretty awful. Custom UI layout is secondary honestly. The new one looks less dated and has more flight relevant info available without switching tabs and modes.
I have to agree with the OP. KSP2 has a better looking and more effective UI, it just takes some getting used to if you've been playing the old game for a decade.
