Terminator: Resistance

Shadow glitches since last update
Anyone else getting this? Shadows appear to pop in and out depending on what direction you're looking at. Has happened on every level i've replayed since the update. I thought it might be an outdated driver, so updated to the newest one and it still occurs.

Yes I saw it: on the Hollywood Hills map, when standing at the base of he villa right in front of the high wall - depending on the direction the player is looking at, there is a huge difference in what shadows and lighting is applied.

Yep. My last save is at the Greek Theater in the Hollywood Hills.
Noticed it immediately.
Very annoying.

Bump.
The latest update still hasn't fixed this issue.

I don't have that at all, but I tweaked the ini files, again today for the latest version that's why. Game is poorly optimized and with my handful of tweaks I get sharper, and much better textures, and no problems with the shadows.

But, it comes at a heavy cost. I believe it's always just been poorly optimized so uses far more resources than it should. More than other games (I'm thinking Dishonored 2) which has beautiful graphics when maxed, but uses less power.

My i7-8086k runs at 5.1GHz, and pascal Evga GTX 1080ti, over clocked to the limit, drawing over 300watts. Frame capped at 80fps, it manages, but I always record all game sessions in the background. With HWinfo 64. I play full screen so can't see it until after. Only fps is displayed while in game. So...

....After a session (BTW talking about after the big DLC and todays mystery patch, but it was always a juice guzzler) I am amazed to see the way it punishes the GPU. More than Doom eternal on nightmare, more than Dishonored 2, and currently playing Dishonored Death of the outsider which has genuinely great graphics but doesn' t need as much GPU power. (1440p)

It's just not well optimized and ini tweaks cannot really make up for that, plus they put the heaviest demand of any game played on my GPU, while the CPU takes it easy and barely gets warm. I can't fix that.

What you said in the first paragraph is what I have done as well.
I'm running an i7 6700k @ 4.2 w/ 2080ti

Before the update I never encountered these shadow issues.
The game ran smoothly on max settings.
Hanging around 65-70+ on average. And with Reshade.(checked that as well, not causing the problem).
Never dipping below. But that is not related to the shadow issues I'm seeing.

Well you have good hardware. It's real difficult to get the numbers right in the ini additions.
I tried many versions. As for the shadows it was probably more luck than anything else.

My main focus was richer textures which just frys GPUs, and sharpness to get rid of any blur.
I barely touched the shadow value. Probably slightly above EPIC. All I can think of is that I got lucky with other tweaks and they just happened to fully eliminate any of the issues with shadows, or anything? I can't say I specifically did it. As said I think finally got lucky and other related values eliminated that?

But at it's core it's just badly coded. Can't make up for that. Ini tweaks can be fantastic in some games, but with this it's hit and miss. In the best case the game can look fairly good, but unlike other games where we can tweak and get expected results, this one seems to be trial and error, and I am sure the shadow thing was luck. There also seems to be no size fits all. I mean, I found the basic tweaks online and added my own too (U.E 4 vs 4.25), but the values on the online ones just made the game look awful. I often do this kind of thing and usually get approx what I expect from tweaks and their values.

Not this game. Trial and error with a big dolop of luck seems to be it.

Still getting these even after the small update. It’s just strange. Flashes of the shadows from buildings popping in and out. Something in the game has been knocked loose somewhere. Surprised there aren’t more people reporting it.

If I thought I could help, seriously I would provide a small group of ini tweaks that might improve it. Usually I don't do that, before I did, and it reduced "persons x" frame rate to 20fps. I told him before that his hardware wouldn't handle the numbers, so put them lower, and expect to try several times.
Idiot. After he said my settings were crap, he asked me how to get back to before. IDIOT!! Just erase all those ini tweaks, there was only 4 anyway. Years ago, different game.

Since then I realized some gamers (not you) are truely clueless and a console would be better for them. Seriously. I didn't tell him that, but said just erase everything I gave you.
I didn't reply or converse with him anymore after that.

In your case with the shadows, normally I would be happy to pm an ini set, but I won't do that.
My shadows are fine, but I am 100% sure that it was fine due to other settings linked to texture and distance. I had shadows in my file because it might be weird not to include that (because of the nature of the other settings.) I gave it a value of 3 which is barely a tweak.
I got lucky with shadows. And it's sensitive. Small changes can be fine on PC A, but horrible on another PC with similar specs. The game is very weired and inconsistent in that regard.

Good luck.

I think its something baked into the level lighting or the way the baked shadows are implemented.

I've made a video for the devs just incase one of them is stealth reading the forums

https://youtu.be/gCPP7vrkfus

This never occurred prior to the Infiltrator mode update

On my PC, I found that this issue occurs when the FOV is 100 or greater. Try setting the FOV to 99 or lower.
