Does this choice mean that I think it does? (spoilers)

I'm near the end of the game (I think), and Mr. Stranger just urged me to get all of my friends out of the shelter. Ryan asked me to help him repair the buggy. Instead I ratted on him, because it DOES mean he'll be out of the shelter.

Was the "good" option instead to help him repair the buggy, then have a conversation with him afterwards and urge him to leave without begin forced??

Choices you make in the game do make a slight difference to things you see in the game, and a couple things affect the ending as well. Your call!

specific characters and how they view you (friendly or not) affect the ending. you will see them if they die before the end and a summary of what happened to each character just before the credits roll.

he never repairs the buggy, because he lacks the actual skills. he just claimed he could so barron would not kick him out.
getting your friends to leave the shelter is the best option, even if it means lying or ratting them out.
or else they will all die when the terminators storm the base and kill everyone.

The only time I felt having someone stay in the shelter was a better choice than having them leave was with Erin. I think having her think her husband is still alive and having her search for him is pretty cruel. I think she would prefer closure whether it means she lives or dies afterwards.
