I mean, if you REALLY want to get rid of a terminator and your options are knife or shootout, then on higher diffs you definitely choose the knife. Unless you have a hacked turret or something nearby, anyways...
Edit: Also, yeah, the knife interact prompt (left click on K&M) completely disappears when the Terminator knows you're there. So they ONLY work when you're undiscovered - don't know if there's a lore reason for that, but it definitely sounds plausible.
Oh, how I WISH there was a patch that merged that DLC with the vanilla campaign. Weapons and T-600s and all.
Yes, I'm aware of that. It seems the knife is electrified, so Rivers inserts it into the terminator to fry its electronics from within. What I was referring to is the knife being unusable when the Terminator "spots" you, which could either be a gameplay consideration OR some kind of built-in safety where once it enters "combat mode" it isolates its internals to better protect itself or something.....
