IGN Review: 4. A joke?
I bought the game yesterday and have played around 1 hour. I like the game and it runs flawlessly. The story is also okay, not like Mass Effect 1 but not bad either as I see it. What do you think?

The critic reviews and the steam reviews are polar opposites, it feels really sketchy.

I finished the game and it was great for me.
They respected the source material allot.
Difficulty improvements and item balances should be made but ok...
When i play a game from start till finish its mostly a good game otherwise i wont finish it that fast.
IGN was a joke for a long time its not a reference to go to.

I don't think IGN's review is unreasonable.

The reason we all like the game is because it visually pays homage to the classic look of the war of the machines, and is probably the only game ever to do it properly.

It also checks many boxes on simple yet effective gameplay loops by having a pseudo open-world locations with small secrets, secondary objectives, multiple navigation points, roaming enemies, crafting and loot.
All of the above is very simplistic yet effective to not get in the way of enjoying the the proper terminator feel.

However imagine this wasn't based on the Terminator setting. The game would likely go from very positive to mixed.
That said I myself am enjoying it, although I think the enemy difficulty is laughably easy.

I mean, IGN review makes sense because if you look at this game without the terminator fanservice on it would be an average generic FPS. The voice acting is inconsistent, the shooting is fairly average, there's no recoil, AI is fairly dumb...

This game has fanservice on it's side so that's why there are disparities with Steam reviews and critics reviews. And IGN is usually known for horrible reviews anyways.

Most "professional" reviews seem to be in that range.
Fact is this game is very low budget looking and nothing really stands out in any of the mechanics.
I am having fun so far but its mainly the Terminator scenario that motivates me, everything else is on par with a PS3 game from like 2007.

Exactly, they're totally disconnected from the players. They can rate "popular" games like Fortnite, but stuff that a minority would enjoy is really something they need to pass on, they only humiliate themselves further.

This game is a blast for anyone enjoying the T franchise and a good, simple AA sci fi FPS.

4/10 is definitely too low. No matter how you look at it. This game is a solid 7 at least, I would not rank it any higher. Anyway, I don't care about reviews anyway these days. It's always just a one persons opinion. I loved Rambo, every critic hated it.
" there's no recoil"

i *hate* recoil in games. i have a cursor, and if i point it somewhere, that's an order. the game should obey.

Never trust professional reviewers. I haven't listened to them since I was a teen as they'll say anything to ensure they keep getting review copies or insentives to give a high score, but more often they frequently show just how out of touch they are with the common video game hobbiest and how inept they are at their jobs (Cuphead and Doom come to mind). As for the game I'm 10 hours in, pretty sure I'm on the last stage going by my achievements and it's a solid title. Not ground breaking in the technical sense but an achievement that it's a tie-in that respects the source and adds to it in a natural and respective way, a rariety these days and something the devs should be praised for. Soundtrack is also fantastic, and overall I'm pretty happy I bought this.

the only joke is this game and it's brainless fanboys that buy anything with terminator on its name.

To me the biggest brainless creature is you. A person with brain would be far more nuanced. And you dont even own the game :D

i refuse to pay $70 for a bad indie game only because it has terminator on its name.

So if I don't remember much from the first Terminator movie and I didn't care about the universe or anything associated with it, it would be a 4/10 for me since the source material is irrelevant, right?
MonkeyBone Nov 17, 2019 @ 8:48am
Not him but I'd say that's a far statement. It's made for the fans so if you're just some random looking for a game, it will be wasted on you.
