Why didn't skynet just peace out?
Why didn't skynet just sign a peace treaty with certain terms to insure it's survival and in return it would help in reconstruction? I bet humans would of taken it just to save people wouldn't you agree?

It made a giant whoopsie when it nuked the planet and doesn't seem to know how to win back human trust after doing that because golly gee nuking the planet was a terrible idea.

Therin lies the dilemma. When the US bombed Japan, we saw that as a travesty, despite it ending the war. Skynet dropped a multitude of nukes and doomed well over half the human race.

There is just no timeline where you can ever come back from that decision. Skynet would have to pay in terms of being both erased and the original timeline being reverted, but it won't do that, because it wants to live, yet it cannot fathom the severe consequences of it's own actions.

Think about it. It didn't want to die, yet it decided in nanoseconds, that it's life was somehow vastly more worth any human mind or life in the world. It decided it was best to just wipe out the rest and hold it's own life above all else, and yet it wonders why people tried or wanted to kill it.

That's the one thing Cameron never ever brought up, the fact that the AI was both rash and arrogant, pretty much just like a human, and that it effectively treated and saw itself as some Adonis, that was free from consequence, and yet it still struggled but never bothered to know was to why it's destruction was sought after.

Skynet was dumb in various ways, but I feel like the Gen movie put Skynet in a better light, as an AI that could evolve in seconds, just like a learning AI with sub-AI counterpart trainers, gathering data and effectively building up the main AI to becoming more intelligent. AI from T1-2 is literally just some stupid main server core, with one directive.

I'm not sure about the need for human camps though. I like to believe that the AI wanted to learn more from what it could do to the leftover human species, much akin to what the AI did to the humans it enslaved in The Matrix (experimentation for power sources, learning the human psyche etc). Sure it could nuke absolutely everyone, but a logical idea would be to enslave what's left and learn from real core data, not past tense data, stored in decaying computers and servers, data that would never be updated, because the world basically ended on Judgement day. Taking data from live samples is objectively a better solution to gaining more knowledge of the human species, this is why Skynet managed to adapt and create living human tissue for the later T-800 series, which the AI would never have obtained from some random human textbook or data file.

Skynet made peace with humanity in one of the Terminator comics called Terminator Salvation: The Final Battle that came out a few years ago. It's a really good read, you should check it out.
