Supposedly there is more music that is EXACTLY like it's Octopath traveler version. So, you have a lot worse then some un-happy fans. This can bring up a lawsuit for copyright infringement by Square Enix. Doesn't help that Octopath traveler is releasing soon on Steam.
I noticed a clear ressemblance through the choice of musical instruments, but didn't find any ressemblance through melody.
I don't know how I could have been more clear about why I posted it.
Yeah, after talking with someone who knows a bit more about music, it became more understandable (to me) how something coincidental like this can occur. My post is more of a warning about folks who wouldn't be as understanding. Good on you for taking quick action.
I don't buy it. People want to think everyone is nice and honest but that's not true. There is far more chances that they got scammed by their composer than that music got recreated by accident.
That said, the developer looks to have contracted out the music; it's not someone in-house. So if anything, we should trust the developer never meant for this to happen. Giving the benefit of the doubt is becoming too rare in these times but I'd prefer to give it.
This is far outside of the realms of parody or inspiration. This guy had balls to rip straight from Square Enix games, since so many people know this music, and to take not only from a game that just came out but also FFVII. I feel awful for the devs, but they need to know as soon as possible.
It's still not obvious to me that it's pale copy, but heii, i might be ''slow''.
As soon as Mad Eye shows up the first time, the atmospheric dungeon music switches some hyper-active JRPG/Anime music which I found to be horribly misfitting.

Music switch at 2:10
Seeing that one of the tracks could potentially come from FF, makes this notion even stronger.
And I'm not blaming the devs - it'd be on the composer to fix it.
Yeah. This is a major thing in the music world:

Are you actually listening to the song? The most similar aspect is the flute, and the stronger melody from Tifa's theme isn't apparent in the sample you cite. This isn't some Blurred Lines situation where you hear Marvin Gaye clearly for the entire song. Probably not a copyright concern (10 seconds) and more of "inspiration", which is so common in music it's not worth pointing out examples (the practice of "sampling" is not the same, of course).
