What's the point of those balls?
They are the smiley yellow ones, what is the point of it?

EDIT: Are they cosmetic, or do they help get points? I'm trying really hard to get 230 / 230 on the first level, but we keep getting 220 ...

The balls are mostly for visual purposes and liveliness in the early game. There's a hidden level and a few puzzles towards the end of the game that actually use them.
