Question about protagonist Sarah (spoilers)
So the other day, I read Sarah cannot participate in the final battle unless you sacrifice Shonen to the Abyss Gate by including him in your party. So I started a new game with her because she appealed to me the most with her naturally high Magic.

Now, today, I read she cannot participate in the final battle, period, unless she's solo, otherwise she'll be stuck in Commander Mode. Is there really no way at all to have her in the final battle fighting alongside everyone else?????

There's no way. As an alternative, Thomas is an even better mage (27 Magic versus 26) if you care about that kind of thing. But she is indeed second and her usage is pretty limited. Monika is also a perfectly good mage if you go Scholar/None.

Buuuut yeah. I come bearing no good news in particular. Sorry about that. :p

Well that's stupid. I'm a weirdo and like playing as a female protagonist lol. I was doing Monika at first, Scholar/None, but then I looked into Sarah some more and liked her high magic (26 compared to 18), but now... Ugh. How sorely disappointing lol. I wonder what the devs were thinking, cucking the player like that if they chose to play as her. :|

Thanks so much for this. I guess I'll stick with Monika. :\

I dunno if this'll help at all, but there's a ring midway through the bonus dungeon that grants +5 Magic. This didn't exist in the original version and would bring Monika pretty close to par with Sarah and Thomas without it. It comes before the dungeon starts getting really tough - I grabbed it when everybody was around 250-300 HP myself.

It's a big help to anybody who isn't hyper gifted at magic the way Thomas and Sarah are, really.

EDIT: Also, looking at character creation, Ellen has surprisingly good base INT. She can get up to 22, and that ring would make her fairly beastly. I always figured she'd be daft like Katarina, but apparently not. The more you know!

It'll make sense when you reach the end.

The funny part is that Sara as your main is also the only way to recruit Shoen early...but he can't participate against the final boss either! They really didn't think that one all the way through, but most people speculate that Shoen is like that because his plotline was simply unfinished and basically cut from the game.

you can't use Sarah face the last boss, but other can fight with 'unique' command mode made me the easiest clear through all characters in game

I got Sarah solo to the Abyss on the SNES version, and there was a Mikhail blocking the way. The devs must have intended him to prevent you from having an empty party when Sara leaves, but there was no way to interact with him. He just stood there, blocking the way.
It was weird. Did they really change it in this remaster ?

I watched someone solo Sara's entire chapter the other day, if she reaches the final battle alone, she will fight it alone.
