It's ok to spend some early money on gear but I prefer to save it for spells.
I don't completely remember but I want to say there are timers on several quests.
You can remove some party members by talking to barkeeps. Some people will refuse to leave.
Thank you so much!
I found out part of the reason why I was struggling. It seems Tarte is absurdly weak in the game, and me insisting on dragging her around without knowing what I was doing was not helping me. She was the one who kept dying and losing LP, which was leading me to repeatedly reload and not have a good time overall.
You can only have one element per character, you're better off looking up spell descriptions and seeing what fits. As a rule, status ailments and healing spells are really useful. If you want a good earlygame mage, do the weapon delivery quest and in Yarmouth explore thoroughly to do the Robin quest, then go to the warehouse to recruit him (if you get the fat one, just leave and come back until you get the normal one, the fat one has much better HP but less magic and strength). As a rule for equipment, defense is king.
Some quests will be locked out if you progress too far, for instance the weapon delivery quest cannot be completed properly if you get too strong, and fighting the rat swarm in the cave locks you out of the pet quest. There isn't a timer however, I believe quests unlock based on your max HP.
Formation menu. If you bench your leader you get the commander mode.

RS3 is much less strict on LP than RS2, you can replenish it all by sleeping at an inn, and someone dying in battle just kicks them from the party. She is weak but she learns small sword skills very quickly and has a cold resist item.
Erp. I went straight to Archfiend Palace because Charl and Muse and Thomas? I think sent me there automatically to find somebody. Maybe I'm way jumping the gun for Katarina and her peeps?
That's a normal earlygame quest for Katarina, but if you start running into demons you've gone too far. Gon is in the corner of one of the side rooms that have slime monsters and goblins in them. You have to jump over a gap to reach him.
No, running isn't penalized in this game.
Another question:
Do any of my party members ever leave outside of me asking them to? I don't want to spend a lot of money on spells on a dude who will peace out.
Instead, you get the loot you need by exploring dungeons and completing quests. Focus on those and your weapon and magic levels will go up well enough from the fights you do get into.

I don't think it's the ultimate source but at least it guides you through the entire game, with screenshots. Good luck!
Thank you so much!
First playthroughs of SaGa games are always the hardest, but I think the more you know about the mechanics the more fun the game becomes. Hope you enjoy your Katerina playthrough! I'm going through her story right now myself on the Switch version of this game.
