The obvious question: How's the port?
I should note that I'm a realist about ports like this. This is an updated remaster/translation of a SNES game, and it's likely going to play like one. I don't need 60 FPS, a bunch of graphics options, or any of the other big, fancy bells and whistles a lot of PC gamers get adamant about. Does it meet the basics, though? Does it control well, is there decent controller support, are there any major bugs, is the translation job decent, etc? RS2 had some pretty bad input lag that never really got fixed, is that the case here or did they fix that up?

The game runs smoothly and everything is beautiful, the world, the UI, the menu, etc. This has been an amazing port imo! I didn't play for very long but I was pleasantly surprised at how well this game was made for the PC. My only complaint so far is the very slow dialogue and tooltip transition, and it took me a bit to get used to the sprites and background, but otherwise I'd give the game a 10/10 so far! A job very well done!

My question: Square Enix has received some backlash for releasing mobile ports of their games and calling them "remasters". The biggest problem with mobile ports on PC is that the UI is clearly designed for small touch screens. Is this another example of a mobile port on Steam or is it actually a ground-up PC game?

I'd like to comment that, for me, this game appears to occasionally stutters (very tiny stutters).

However, from watching some Let's play videos, Switch version and PS4 version also have these micro-stutters as well. So, I'd say this PC port is pretty alright because it behaves exactly the same way as console versions.

Example of this game's micro-stutters at the opening scene: https://youtu.be/pnoOFbSeYHo?t=75

These stutters are hardly noticeable during actual gameplay though. You'd have to walk slowly in straight line for several seconds to be able to notice them.

I have run into no real issues so far.

I was uncertain if buying this on Switch or Steam, in the end bought on Steam and I can confirm the quality of this port. On Surface Book 2 runs with no problem at all, the resolution (I was very skeptical) is perfectly fine since it support full hd from the game menu itself. Game runs smootly, no problem so far!

It's better quality than the FF5 or 6 ports, with a pretty good interface, but not by a tremendous amount. Water's passable and the effects certainly look better than stock RPG maker unlike FF5 and 6's ports. It's still really jarring that it's 16 bit sprites on high res backgrounds, not as jarring as Phantom Brave visually. Translation is a little janky too from what I've seen, it's enough to make guides a little hard to parse. Gameplay-wise, it seems to be Romancing SaGa 3, no idea what the bonus content included is though.

Input lag for movement is there, just as in RS2. Atleast on the Nintendo Switch version. I believe its tied to the game engine.

I think the pixel art 2D landscapes looked better in the original game...
