It was further improved later, but for future players, this is a good one for that race if you want to do that first.
I didn't have the side air propellers on my dirigible and did ok.
Dirigibles turn slowly and also have a delay in response. The faster you turn, the more the delay can mess you up. Start to turn early, stop turning early and counter turn (Turn the opposite way and then back to center) to stop your turn quickly.
This can also apply to ships.
