In all honesty though, the mash quality only matters if you're planning on selling it. I'm constantly making absolute garbage quality mash, while still reaching the highest quality moonshine.
Going purely on anecdotal evidence, I'd say that the mashing machine makes the biggest difference. I've never gotten over "bad" quality on the mashing tun, while I'm almost always getting excellent on the mashing kettle.
Drugs do make you better at crafting per the wiki.
