Rennovating player apartment question

I've got a question about player apartment renovations, what happens when you do a renovation in an area of your apartment that you've placed furniture in?

As an example, say I had my bed placed where the heating system would be if I purchased that room upgrade, what would happen to the bed? Would the game just return it to your inventory or would it ask you to remove items before confirming the upgrade?

Hoping to get an answer as I kinda don't want to lose important stuff upgrading the player room.

When renovating the oven or heater that is left over, it should still be there after the renovation; at least the boxes and chests of drawers were retained and could then be moved easily.

However, you should not fill the kitchen or bathroom with furniture, because on the higher floors more specific furniture will be added, such as bathroom cabinets or refrigerators, and you should leave them empty before renovation, otherwise the contents will be lost.

Also depending on placement some items may be inside of other items. Like if you placed a cabinet where the counters will be. You should either move them to the center of the room or remove them until the renovation is complete.
