started workshop upgrades in last version, can not complete now

i started the workshop lever 3 or 4, cant remember, in my last save before the update, with Jonasson. Now it tells me he can not do the update, i can not pay him to finish it. is there a command to finish the update or a save edit or something?

What exact upgrade are you talking about? Some upgrades are done by the NPC in the mines and you must talk to him again to complete these upgrades. Or maybe you're just lacking RM to complete it?

Unfortunately, it's a known bug specific to saves started in 0.3.38 and ported to 0.4. Workshop Tier 2+ are now tagged as only completeable by the guy in the mines, but if you had started them with Sam, the game still expects you to pay Sam to finish the upgrade... but he's "not the guy you pay" for that upgrade anymore, so you're softlocked.

OP, your only option is to downgrade to the prior version (should be in the game properties in steam, somewhere), load a save that's still 0.3.38, resolve all upgrades for both Workshop and Mushroom Farm, ideally don't have any renovations in progress, and only then update the game. There are no console commands for renovations, and no one seems to know what parts of the save file have to be edited to do it manually...

managed to get older version, v0.3.36, went to Sam and everything is empty, so no luck.

maybe editing the save to cancel the upgrade, or finish it forcefully

i found something but dont know how to change it properly, i tried a couple of things but either it breaks the upgrade so it cant be started again or it bricks the save file. I also found the entry for the task (pay sam to finish) in the task list but switching it from active to finished also did not help.
