red orbs

Well i finally got the oskrat (if im right), but not sure why are we collecting those red orbs?

it feels like we collect dead souls -

I've got the osrat, and used it near two smv bodies already, but i didn't notice there were any red orbs to collect?
What did i miss?

keep the device out and on walk around and expolore when it turn green use it..

still have no clue if we should be collecting the orbs or not...
