Surviving as the Gang of Four

Hi everyone! Firstly, I absolutely LOVE the game so far, only a few hours in but I've had a blast. The Devs knocked it out of the park with the game's aesthetic and feel.

I've done a few test runs just learning the game, but I've noticed that attempting to save the Gang of Four and go Left Radical seems kind of impossible. Almost immediately I've gotten a coup trying this run and I'm out of ideas. Anyone else have any luck on a good left radical strat?

I only played for an hour but also tried to stay radical. I got pretty far by just arresting two of them in the respective decision (and then always going radical in the follow up decisions). Arresting no one seems to be impossible so far unless you cheese your way through a very specific set of decisions I haven't figured out so far.

I wish we had more feedback, as when I am arrested I do not know if it is reformists or radicals arresting me. You notice I said 'when I get arrested', I am resigned to eventually being arrested in Kremlin Games products! If they made a game about selling lemonade on a street corner I would still end up arrested because they are evil!

Its easier now since you can see the relationship with all the important party members. Obviously the ones who hate you will bring you down, so just check to which faction they belong.

Choose the "soft" event choices before the event (don't criticize Zhou, only cordon off Tiananmen, etc. You must do these or else you will get an uprising). Then when you get the event, choose to compromise with all four. Soon you will get another event where it will say the radicals are leading a coup against you. Just choose 'give in' and Jiang Qing takes over and you are now playing as her.

Good luck with that, though! Your diplomatic rating will go through the roof and citizen contentment will go down. You will also be locked out of many 'soft' choices. She does not mess around.

Have at least 10 agents ready because you will get a conspiracy right away.

in my left radical run i had about 3 coup attempts every year. The only way to solve this problem for me was to max out MSS funding to have 10 agents to counter, and/or military to back you, in later years with automation i can use people's satisfaction to counter the coups

Set your MSS funding to at least 15, unless you are really active in events, this should be enough.

i set it to 19 in the beginning and increase it as soon as top limit goes up

Could be overkill IMO. I think keeping MSS at 80% of State funding is enough

You need to max fund propaganda (found out that propaganda is very effective at reducing corruption from this). Sabotage the 'no' campain then don't intervene in the political events, this allows you to choose the softest decision at tianiman square.
With decent MSS funding and a little bit of party envelope funding you should only get one party coup event(if you want to extend the cultural revoultion as wang guofang you need max MSS funding as well).
Being wang cause US relations to drop a lot per month (I do detente untill I can form ECO or join the CMEA, its not especially expensive as you can usually take at least +8 loans from the increase US relations each detente).

Does anyone one know how to keep the gang of four around without becoming wang? I'm trying to get the new achievement.
