1) Leonid Brezhnev

At the beginning of the game, the Soviet Union is headed by the 70-year-old Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev, already suffering from several diseases and gradually departing from the business. He is the author and chief conductor of the “Brezhnev doctrine”, he is trying with all his might to ensure the preservation and gradual expansion of the sphere of influence of the USSR, to ensure peace for the country, and for the people — well-being and prosperity. For this, Brezhnev provides a proportional increase in both military and civilian expenses, reacts extremely negatively to attempts to wrest any countries from the Soviet sphere, and may even send troops to prevent this (Poland, Hungary, Afghanistan). In domestic politics, Leonid Ilyich maintains a balance and evenly promotes both conservatives and reformers.

Brezhnev does not see China as an adversary and is ready to restore relations with him. However, he reacts very painfully to the creation by the PRC of its blocks and, especially, to attempts to draw the countries of Eastern Europe into these blocks. He will like it if you send a team to the Olympics in Moscow (1980) and help restore order in Poland and Afghanistan. However, he is clearly not happy with rapprochement with the United States and will most certainly respond to this by introducing an embargo.

Brezhnev interacts best with Wang Hongwen, for whom it is easier to restore Soviet-Chinese relations.

November 10, 1982 Leonid Ilyich Brezhnev died suddenly.

2) Yuri Andropov

Chairman of the KGB of the USSR Yuri Vladimirovich Andropov is the reformist wing of the CPSU. He is in favor of carrying out reforms on the Hungarian model, detente from the United States, reducing the costs of foreign policy operations and transferring cash flows to the development of the economy. Andropov promotes reformist cadres headed by Mikhail Gorbachev, but, in the event of a worsening geopolitical situation, he can assist in nominating the young wing of conservatives led by Grigory Romanov.

Yuri Andropov heads the USSR after the death of Leonid Brezhnev in the event that US global influence is higher than that of the USSR. If you eliminated it during the progress of Vladimir Scherbitsky's line - Andropov will not be available.

Andropov is extremely negatively disposed towards China and will regard you as a potential adversary. It will prevent you from deepening the penetration of the Soviet blocs, and while creating your blocs - will try to join forces with the United States to weaken the PRC. It is with him easier to get the achievement "Unthinkable."

Andropov heads the USSR until the end of the game, he is already dying in the end.

3) Konstantin Chernenko

"Shadow of Brezhnev", the head of the General Department of the Central Committee of the CPSU, Konstantin Ustinovich Chernenko, was perceived by few as a serious political figure. However, it was around him that the most consistently tuned to continue the Cold War to the bitter end gathered party members. They were distinguished by neo-Stalinist and pro-Russian views, which caused obvious discontent of Mikhail Suslov and Arvid Pelshe, who were responsible for the ideological and moral purity of the party, but the death of the first (1981) and aggravation of the second's health status (1982) brought Chernenko and his supporters to a prominent place in the CPSU.

Konstantin Chernenko heads the Soviet Union after the death of Leonid Brezhnev, if the world influence of the USSR is higher than that of the USA. He throws all the forces of the Soviet Union into foreign policy and into the defense industry, hoping to smash the United States as quickly and as quickly as possible until the economic problems that have manifested themselves in the last years of Brezhnev’s life have finished the country. He is extremely hostile to any attempt to encroach on the sphere of influence of the USSR, but considers China as a strategic ally against the United States. For this, Chernenko is even ready to close his eyes to the growing influence of China in the world and to the presence of blocks of China (nevertheless, it is not recommended to expand its sphere at the expense of the USSR when Chernenko, the embargo will arrive at once).

Chernenko holds the presidency until his death in the end and promotes the younger generation of conservatives led by Grigory Romanov, who most often becomes his successor.

4) Vladimir Scherbitsky

The first secretary of the Communist Party Central Committee, Vladimir Vasilyevich Shcherbitsky, represents the progressive wing of the CPSU, advocating rejuvenation of cadres, raising the standard of living of the population and the CPSU’s authority in society, fighting reformist sentiment, protecting the interests of the USSR in the world, and restoring relations with the PRC while continuing with the United States.

Vladimir Scherbitsky heads the USSR after the death of Leonid Brezhnev if you followed the lineup of events on his promotion - eliminated or removed from the policies of Fyodor Kulakov, Peter Masherov, Dinmukhammed Kunaev and Yuri Andropov.

Scherbitsky is the least negative about China and is willing to share with him part of the sphere of influence in exchange for confrontation with the United States. However, he is suspicious of the Chinese blocs, considering them a possible threat to Soviet influence in the world.

Since Shcherbitsky has consistently opposed the United States, but at the same time he is holding back reformers, the USSR, with him, has more chances to win the Cold War.

5) Grigory Romanov

The policy of rejuvenation of personnel, which the late Leonid Brezhnev still managed to start, led to the fact that the Politburo of the Central Committee of the CPSU included two young and promising party members - conservative Gregory Romanov and reformer Mikhail Gorbachev.

Grigory Vasilyevich Romanov as head of the Leningrad Party organization of the CPSU proved to be a pragmatic and promising manager, significantly increasing the level of economic development of the revolution’s homeland and the standard of living of the population. Being an ideological and convinced communist, he nevertheless inclined to the need for economic reforms, therefore, although he was ideologically close to Konstantin Chernenko and Vladimir Scherbitsky, he supported Yuri Andropov in his economic search, where he faced resistance from Gorbachev rushing to power.

Grigory Romanov heads the USSR in the end after Yuri Andropov and / or Konstantin Chernenko and until his death in 2008. The elimination of at least one of the reformers in the line of events for the promotion of Vladimir Scherbitsky will increase the chance of his coming. Tightening discipline and order, he partially unscrews the nuts and allows alternative music to discourage young people from listening to The Beatles and Co. The USSR continues to be a powerful superpower, however ...

There are two possible options:

If you have introduced successful automation, the Chinese example will convince Romanov to resume automation in the USSR, which will greatly strengthen the country.
If you have not introduced automation or it has failed - Romanov, due to his managerial talents, will be able to contain the crisis of the Soviet economy, but his successors will start near-market reforms.

6) Mikhail Gorbachev

She will leave for the USA, he will leave for Bonn.
I say goodbye to them silently, forever ...
All run to the West: the off season,
And even the Sun hurries there every day.

- With these words from the well-known song of one of the “Chicks of Perestroika” Igor Talkov, one can characterize what awaits the once great Soviet Union under the leadership of the young unfortunate reformer Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev. The policy of large-scale reforms, which MS Gorby began, led to the complete collapse of the country and to the fact that everyone fled to the West and to China, which turned out to be smarter and, under the player’s guidance, carried out reforms smarter, without fundamentally breaking everything and everyone.

Mikhail Gorbachev comes after Yuri Andropov in the end and leads the country before its collapse in 1991. This is an HDI-total of the Soviet Union, I have nothing more to add.

However, precisely the coming to power of Gorbachev is a necessary condition for the complete interception of both its blocks from the USSR.

7) Victor Grishin

The paths of history are inscrutable, and by the will of the Soviet Union in the end headed by the former head of the Moscow Communist Party Party organization Viktor Vasilyevich Grishin. An old and experienced conservative politician who has gone through several purges and gained a wise look at the country's past and present, he focuses his main efforts on increasing the standard of living of the Soviet people and strengthening the centralization of the system. This gives rise to corruption and the strengthening of the partycracy, but guarantees stability ... for how long ...

Viktor Grishin heads the Soviet Union in the end, if the World influence of the USSR is approximately equal to the US global influence, but the reformist wing was weakened, and China tried not to interfere in the affairs of the country.
Summary
1. For China, the best option is Vladimir Scherbitsky.
2. For the USSR, the best option is either Grigory Romanov, or Vladimir Scherbitsky, or Viktor Grishin.
3. Almost all Soviet leaders with a stranglehold cling to the sphere of influence of their country. Only Yuri Andropov and Mikhail Gorbachev can score on her.
4. Automation in the USSR can only be carried out by Vladimir Scherbitsky (partially) and Grigory Romanov (in full).
5. Mikhail Gorbachev ruins the country. Is dead This is a feast for the ravens, and they sin not to use.
6. Consider that the United States is also not sleeping and will also try to influence the state of affairs in the USSR. The purpose of AI is to knock out Yuri Andropov with the prospect of entering Mikhail Gorbachev.
7. Yuri Andropov and Konstantin Chernenko always die in the end.

Gorbachev: Do not intervene in weakening the reformists in USSR events, or do not kill Andropov in the ''Iron Yuri'' event.

Romanov: Finish the first two events of weakening reformists in USSR.

Shcherbitsky: Do all the events that require you to weaken the reformists in USSR.

Grishin: Weaken reformists in USSR, do not intervene in USSR sphere of influence and preserve USSR and USA world influence as equal.

It was written there:
Это ИРЛ-итог Советского Союза, мне больше нечего добавить.

This is a real result for the Soviet Union, I have nothing more to add.

ИРЛ - IRL (In Real Life).

In Russian slang can be said as real. What was in reality.

Yegor Ligachev is a “positive” analogue of Mikhail Gorbachev and comes to power in the end if the USSR’s World influence is at least 15 points higher than the US world influence and China’s World influence and no actions were taken against the Soviet reformers. Since he does not participate in the political confrontation, his Strength is not displayed in the "Review" window.

Now we just need Gromyko and Yanaev and we have all playable characters ported over to this game.
