This is not Gothic game... Not even close.
I am 31 years old and I'm one of " old Gothic fan ". I played first game with my friend on his PC many years ago when was young school boy. I played each of Gothic parts for few times. I know what is Gothic game.

Overall feeling after complete demo - it's some sort of modernish " something which trying to look like Gothic " and exploit Gothic title. During playing this demo I had persistent feeling that it was made to sell for casual playstation players who have no ideas what is original Gothic game and just want to play some " another " simple something for fun.

If game is come out same as this demo I will not buy it even if it cost 20 ( or even less ) bucks. I suspect most of old Gothic fan base will not...

But what exactly " is not Gothic game " here. Lets check.

1. Movement/exploration freedom.

No Gothic jump system case. Only fixed jump points. It feels ugly. I can't jump on to stupid box or barrel it's like wall for my character. This fixed jump point modern style ♥♥♥♥ cause for stupid level design I hate when all the level transformed in to " boxy " steps.... This is not Gothic game!!!

" Invisible walls " ( collisions ) everywhere case. Most stupid case with first gate - I can just jump down to other side through big hole if I go on top. But I can't because " invisible wall " don't let me do this. THIS IS NOT GOTHIC GAME!!!!

2. Fight system.

Target system case. Probably most disgusting thing I ever try to fight in games. This jiggling and fixed camera is OMG what a $hit... The only way to fight somehow is to press Ctrl to untarget enemy. But game think that if enemy is not in target so I don't exactly fight. I have no more any control of hit direction, etc. human enemies just stay in constant block ( and this block can't be broken because stamina regenerate too fast ). Creature enemies go around like they don't understand - do we fight or not.... All this shame is not Gothic game!!!!

Damage registration case. Gothic game is when my sword touch enemy in fight - it damage enemy. Here it does not work this way... This is not Gothic game!!!

3. No eat/drink animations.

So I can just eat berries during battle? Really. THIS IS NOT GOTHIC GAME!!!!

4. Picking items

Gothic game - if I see some arrows or something like this so I can pick it up. Here lot of things is just decorations. This is not Gothic game....

5. Closed doors/chests

Gothic game is if I have lockpicks I should have chance to open something closed. Here some of doors is closed just because of quest system. Locked chests is unlock in auto mode.... Just hold button to open. Really? I know you guys 100% was played original Gothic. So what all this $hit doing here?

7. Quest/dialog case

I don't like this " dialog wheel " at all. Why do Gothic game need this " Andromeda style " crap with one or two words to choose? Just give me all the possible dialog options with long full text.

I can't skip dialog. So if something is boring or not really matter I still should listen from start to end... Boring. This is not Gothic game.

Absolutely broken logic in quests. Examples. Last gate guard ask me to bring him some ingredients which I already had - I can't say " here take this ". No!! I have to complete dialog. Then start it again and he said " oh, you came back in one piece ... " I just stand here you іdiot!
Or first gate guard - I returned to him after we already go through gates. Now gates is opened but this another іdiot said to me " ha ha, thanks for help, but I would not open gates for you, go away... ". And we stand and talking about it with opened gates on background .... What a shame.
ALL THIS PRIMITIVE $HIT IS NOT GOTHIC GAME!!!!!!

8. Save game case

Checkpoints? What? I can save " something " but I can't load? When I died after first gate it load me on some " check point " when I have to go again with Diego through the gate, I already have what I looted before death, some items after loading checkpoint was already looted some not ( I pick second rusted long sword ... ). Where before was 2 creatures now I find one... What all this crap mean?

Another thing why I have constant feeling that this demo is not for Gothic fan base and PC gamers but for selling some modern console users....

Specially about graphic. Today, someone who work with 3D is not rare case, and I am one of them, and I even work with UE 4 ( realtime archviz, interiors/exteriors, large scenes ).

I have to say that graphic is very questionable... Verrrrryyyy.

This dotted dithering in alpha ( hairs just disgusting, if it will be just something opaque it will looks better ) and shadows - OMG guys... It does not look as something I should get for those <60 fps which I have on my 2080 and it looks like $hit at all.

Post process - ahhh.... too much mushrooms. To much contrast, too much this, too much that...

First what I do in demo - decrease post process quality to lowest possible to remove all the $hit. But it does not work this way - scene lighting become completely black. So I have to increase it back.

I want to see splitted graphic settings. Especially post process settings to turn OFF gigantic stupid lens flares, decrease bloom, remove away chromatic aberration ( hate this thing in games ), etc.m etc. . Such limited graphic settings I can expect from some mobile game but not from PC modern game ( again - it feels like something for console casuals ). I know you can add it!!! PC gamers can handle " advanced " graphic settings.

Many question to amount of low roughness surfaces and SSR... In many cases it looks too bad. It would be better if game will be more " dried " and less glossy...

Whining about things not working in a pre-pre-Alpha prototype is the real insanity.

I agree that complaining about this prototype in terms of broken features is wasted effort and missing the point. The problem with this game has nothing to do with a broken feature, bugs, etc... it is the design direction that is completely at odds with the original game.
Gothic Remake is going to be another AAA with rainbow graphic with super omega cool armor/clothes/weapons, they do everything to make game for "better players" who pay in dollars
its sad truth about modern times, everything just to sell... gothic lost his soul...

Gothic didn't lose anything. It's still the same as ever. It's the teaser that has no soul.

So it starts of as jurrasic park, and then becomes a bad version of assasin's creed. (who are we?!)

I really hope the devs play the orignial Gothic and try to change the direction of the development.

Its just a demo and i think a lot will change at release. I am just happy that we get a new game of this kind. There is absolute nothing else on the market now, i even startet to replay two worlds 2 and arcania and have fun with it atm.
U know they made the Teaser before they knew, that the Game will become released ?
There will change a lot till the releas. But its great that u give
extensively feedback.
To all those saying this remake is not like the original Gothic. Please, go and play the first Gothic game, the second, and especially the third and then get back to us. Drawing a comparison and posting the most inane opinion from decades ago..... not exactly believable.
OG Gothic is unbeatable, THQ will NEVER be able to make a proper remake or sequel/prequel. So there is no reason for hype or excitement, this discussions is not even needed. All the industry cares about pandering to casuals/consoles, just take a look around. Get ready for another Hollywood movie.

The reason why so many studios try to pander to casuals/consoles is not really hard to see: there is a large target audience, so a lot of money to be made.

Its also obvious why you would want to use the name of gothic: these games were great, there are a lot of fans of the series who are only waiting for the chance to buy a new version of their favorite series.

But mixing these two just doesnt make any sense, because its a completely different audience. A dumbed down console interpretation will mostly get angry reviews from gothic fans, there is no point in trying to attract the fans when the game is not meant for them, you probably just get review bombs on metacritic.

Either develop it for the casuals and also market it for them (which means a larger target audience but of course also a lot more competitors), or keep the marketing towards the gothic fans (a smaller audience, but also smaller competition) but then it should be also developed for them.
