In some locations, it should be possible to touch the barrier where it runs through the middle of a house or cuts off access to a mining gallery.
Gothic 3 did it well with the barrier around Vengard:

Though there seems to be some lightning in the latter, the new one feels more like there is fog of some kind
In Gothic 1 I tried walking through the barrier at the start of the game and died. This way the barrier became believable.
in the teaser i discovered it by accident when asking myself "why are the clouds so smeary?"
so yeah.. it should be much more present.
