"You don't have to buy the toys" yeah but.. then?
People keep saying "you don't have to buy the toys" but then what are the toys for? Faster unlock + collectable figures or is it exclusive stuff and people claiming "you don't have to" just really like incomplete products?

With the toys you can switch your weapons on the fly without going into a menu. Also for the collecting aspect as you said.

I'm not seeing the Cerberus or Scramble ships in any of the Steam packs so it looks like those are still retailer-exclusive toys - if they're even usable on the PC version at all.

Beyond that, the digital versions of everything else offer the same gameplay advantages as the physical toys.

they stopped production on the toys so it will be 100% digital from now on.
When people say "you don't have to buy the toys" it's just that you don't have to buy physical things to use in the game. Instead, you can buy digital copies of toys and use those in lieu of the physical ones. Functionally, it's exactly the same either way and is just a matter of preference.

Those ships come out of the box for digital copies of the game.

Nope. They are exclusively sold as physical ships, and each exclusive to a single retailer; they aren't included in any of the PC packages.

On the other hand, they are just recolors of existing ships with different wings. The Cerberus is a silver and green Lance with upside-down green Neptune wings, worse handling and better combat stats; the Scramble is just a blue and yellow Pulse with Lance wings in matching colors, with identical stats to the Pulse.
