Trasher Hunter explanation doesn't explain much

Is there any more help available for this? The single screen popup tutorial is pretty useless. "Each try gives you the distance of your throw relative to the treasure." Meaning what? What does, say, "348" mean? 348 what? What are the units? What is the corresponding unit size of each individual movement on the grid? How is distance calculated? Is it shortest diagonal line (even though you can't actually move diagonally)? Or is it closest path traveling horizontally and vertically?

It's just a distance that you can compare between throws. The unit is pixels. If you get 348 for one throw and 200 for another, then the second one is closer. Shortest path, you can actually go diagonally with a gamepad stick I believe.
