To add on to this you get a speed boost to how much downtime they have in idle mode to switching back to restocking shelves.
Early on you can afford to just pay them whatever you want but later on you will need 2 or 3 employees being paid well to keep the shelves stocked. It gets very annoying later on to constantly micro manage the sales vs just having the employees stocking the shelves with a full inventory of every item where customers interact only with the counter to buy stuff.
