special skills???
On character creation each class is shown with special skills (like trick attack, assassinate and backstab) these are not spells, but i have no idea how to unlock/access them.
IDK if devs were pretty bad at player experience or thought making everything convoluted is a great idea.

You must use "FOCUS" or "HIDE" abilities and then on the next turn you can use those abilities.

Also to point out that new characters don't learn their skills right away. You got to have some experience on them beforehand. For warriors, they learn their first skill at XP level 6.

Also should note that you can focus one turn but can "hold" the move. So if you focus and then attack regularly, you can still use the move next turn. Can be useful on Fighters and Mages to avoid wasting it.

Trick Attack: Attack a row 3 times, if the last enemy dies all remaining attacks are wasted.

Magic Boost: Double the power of a spellcast, useful for saving slots.

Exorcise: Attempt to kill a row of most undead, doesn't work on some like Spirits. You get half xp.

Hide: Reduce chance to be targeted and can Sneak attack next turn if still hidden.

Identify: Attempt to ID an item, if it fails your Bishop may become afraid and unable to cast.

Shield Wall: Attempt to take attacks in place of other party members.

Haven't gotten to use a Samurai or Ninja yet so unsure what their's do exactly.

Exorcise works on the enemies on the Undead list in the Bestiary.

Hide: Reduce chance to be targeted and can Sneak attack next turn if still hidden.

Back Stab is an all range attack that will steal gold from a row the first time it is used on an enemy in that row.

Identify: Attempt to ID an item, if it fails your Bishop may become afraid and unable to cast.

The ability name in game is Appraisal and Bishops also get a 2nd ability at level 16, Magic Wall, that creates a barrier that negates enemy attacks until they have done more than the barrier's hp in damage.

Shield Wall: Attempt to take attacks in place of other party members.

The Lord's ability name in game is Huge Shield.

Haven't gotten to use a Samurai or Ninja yet so unsure what their's do exactly.

Samurai has Shougeki-Hamon no Jin which attacks every enemy in the front row for half damage.

Ninja should have Hide/Back Stab like the Thief. They may also have a chance of instant killing.

Becoming afraid when you're not able to identify something just makes me chuckle for some reason.

Fair enough, didn't feel like double checking some of the names was all that important. I believe Ninja's insta kill is tied to crit and if this is like other games, not all weapons have crit.

First you need to unlock it. Most classes unlock their skill around level 6-8. Then it will appear in their combat menu near the bottom.

How do you use focus or hide?

You need to level up your thief/fighter/mage until they unlock their skill.

I forget when they learn thier respective skills...but i wana say its around the 2nd half of getting to Level 10. (so Levels 5-9).

After the character uses the turn focusing, you can use thier skill the next turn...or you can hold off on it by doing normal attacks/defending/casting until you want to use it. Thiefs/Ninjas cannot Normal Attack when Hiding, only Back Stab/Assassinate until they are "found".
