Crash to desktop (Application load error 5:0000065434)

Whenever I try to start the game, it immediately crashes to desktop. Installing GOTR prolongs the time before it crashes, but I still don't see anything but a black screen. I've tried all of the proposed solutions I've seen so far on this forum, but no luck yet. When I google the error, it appears that it's a problem with the cracked version of the game, but it shows up for me on the steam version I got from the humble bundle.

solutions I've already tried:
compatibility mode (and all of the recommended options)
GOTR
Power tools

As I already said, I've tried the steps you provided.

I did fix the problem though: I ran the directX installer in the DirectX folder

DirectX update didn't help. I'm indeed cracked, and won't consider buying.

So, you decided to revive a dead topic for no reason at all, just to say that you can't get a cracked copy of the game to run, so you won't buy it?

Which only the Steam version contains the latest patch anyways. All other versions don't and are more buggy because of it.

I know this is old but if you are still having problems and want to play SR2, then just install directX 9.
