Playing co-op without using Gamespy?
Hello everyone. I recently purchased this game during the sale and was excited to play co-op with my friend. However, it seems like Gamespy will be shutting down soon. We've heard that you can use Hamachi to do this, but neither one of us is sure how. If someone could tell me how to do this, or just provide a link that gives you step by step instructions, then I would be most appreciative.

Just use Evolve: http://www.evolvehq.com

Or scroll down to view alternatives for Hamachi: http://alternativeto.net/software/hamachi/

I've found Evolve to be the easiest. Heard great things about Tunngle & GameRanger too.

Hamachi is okay just okay. There is way better programs though. I wouldn't recommend it.

Use Evolve for playing with friends and maybe try Tunngle and GameRanger to find others playing games. Then again maybe most the GameSpy players will move to Evolve.

Get more people to use Evolve's online LAN feature as it's the simplest and best looking of the online LAN programs. ;) Plus it works really well.

I have been playing it with Gamespy Co-Op online without any problem at all. If you already had a gamespy account you can log-in normally (not sure if you can create a new one though), and if you lost your password you can use https://login.gamespy.com/lostpassword.aspx to retrieve it.

Hope it helps :fphat:

It's been reported that all games that have GameSpy servers will be closed down by the end of May.

Try Evolve: http://www.evolvehq.com

Or Tunngle or GameRanger.

I find Evolve to be the easiest.

I heard some having issues with hosting and joining LAN games though.

Thanks for all of your comments! I tried using Evolve and it worked pretty well.

Sorry for the long message but I really do need help:

Hey Godaigamer, I see that you are the OP for this discussion thread and in your last comment you said that you did download "Evovle and it worked pretty well." I am not angry when I say this, I honestly and literally want to know what you mean by "it worked pretty well." I too downloaded Evolve and tried to play saints row coop (not multiplayer) with a friend but I do not understand it. When you say it works do you mean you were able to play with a friend or join a friend in a coop match, or do you simply mean that the program "Evolve" works well? I just want to know because I bought myself and a friend a copy and although it was cheap I still don't want to feel like I wasted money due to a lack of working coop. I mean I know Evolve gives you an IP address and there is a LAN setting on the coop section of the game, but there is nowhere to insert said IP address. I have tried multiple things and just simply want to know how to join my friends game or vice versa.

I'm trying to get to the bottom of this. Some have no issues and some like myself and you have this issue....

I found a temp solution:

1. Start a Party in Evolve have your friend come in then disable your Internet network adapter and keep the Evolve Network adapter enabled.

2. Now load up Saints Row 2 and host a LAN game when it says waiting for player alt+tab and re-enable your network adapter then once you're back online tell your friend to load up Saints Row 2 and join you.

3. Evolve works great with all the games I tested yet SR2 for me and well you has this issue. Yet others don't have this issue.

So we need to find a real fix....Hopefully before the end of May. Figure out why some have no issues and some need to use this work around....

I basically did the same thing that RoadKilla said. I created a party with my friend using Evolve, then when we started up Saint's Row 2 he created a LAN-based CO-OP game which I was able to see and enter. We were able to play together with no problems.

I did get it working finally, thank you, I guess I will also mention that I did it using your methods so that's awesome. Unfortunately one problem dies and another arises...this isn't the best console-PC port I have seen, and some people say it works fine but I am one of the ones with crappy framerate, glitches, etc. :( oh well.

I believe IdolNinja is aware of this issue and is working on a guide for a fix and to explain to the masses on how to use Evolve and Tunngle for online LAN play. ;)

Hamachi just works. Evolve is bloated and full of pointless features designed to attract the Mtn Dew crowd by way of flashy lights and colourful banners. Choose your poison.
