Saints Row 2 now available for Linux and SteamOS!
Saints Row 2 and Saints Row: The Third have now joined the rest of the Saints Row PC games on Linux and Steam OS!

Already own the games? Thanks to Steam Play, having either game in your library means you can now play it on any supported OS -- Windows, Linux, or Steam OS.

* The German release of Saints Row 2 PC is still only available for Windows operating systems due to issues with the original source code.

GOTR mod woks ok, but kill the multilanguage support .
Where are the save/config files located?
How did you manage to install the GotR mod on Linux? It uses a .bat file to install it. Is there a way to just move files into appropriate folders to get it to work?
No, because it has to package the file with your settings. You'd have to use a virtual Windows install to run it and copy the files, you can even use a trial version of Windows if you want. I don't know if Wine would let you run the .bat file, I'm not too keen on Linux applications.

1. wine cmd
2. Create_Custom_GotR_v1.9.2.bat

or

wine start Create_Custom_GotR_v1.9.2.bat

So fortunately I have a copy from HumbleBundle and can use the game in Germany. Still sad that the performance is bad. I hope they fix the issues from Windows.

Awesome, thanks. I wan't sure if the .bat file would work properly through wine.

The performance is horrible, 15-35 fps with GTX 660. I was playing a subsidiary mission and suddenly the sound had gone and some noise started. I left that mission, the sound got fixed, but when I started another mission, it gone again. Well, at least this game does not crash.

i7-6700k@4.6GHz, AMD R9 285, fglrx driver on Ubuntu 14.04. I don't think I noticed the frame rate above 20FPS on low quality settings. I can handle some pretty horrible frame rates in games, but this is absolutely unplayable for me.

Fortunately I still have a copy of the original Xbox 360 version kicking around, but I was hoping for improved gameplay on PC - not worse.

yeah at least i get 20-40 FPS on Saints Row IV for linux on high settings 768P (i got 50-70 FPS on SRIV Windows by comparison.) Considering how unoptimized DX to OpenGL ports are, i can accept framerates around 20-30 for these games. But to get 10-20 FPS is horrible.

This isn't likely as they don't have the source code for the PC version. It's been this way even on PC since it released, there was maybe one update? And then nothing as the section of CD Projekt RED that ported this was shut down/merged soon after and they lost the source files and never gave copies of them to Volition. Here's to hoping they can maybe take the original assets and port it from scratch but I highly doubt it since a few of the original programmers/designers no longer work at Volition.

Edit: I mean CD Projekt, not RED. As it wasn't the same developers as The Witcher, but a part of their company before they got merged into other sections of the company including the RED section.

Port was made by Virtual Programming, not by Volition. They use eON wrapper to convert DX to OGL. They use it in SR4, Bioshock Infinito, SpecOps and The Witcher 2

The port is basically just the Windows version using eON isn't it? So Volition would have to fix the Windows version for it to properly affect the Linux port.

However in middle of this problems,

Dirt Showdown and Arma 3 use EON and runs very good

Maybe with more time devs can improve actual performance

Those were both really good PC releases, which is why their performance translates directly to how well they perform on Linux using the same porting system. Saints Row 2 was one of the allt ime worst PC ports ever made and it was never fixed, IdolNinja helped to make it quite a bit better but it still has a ton of issues, even mission issues that didn't affect the game on PS3 and Xbox 360 were cropping up on the PC version.
