Yep, same here. In addition to limiting fps to 30 through the nvidia control panel and turning on v-sync I also run it as admin and set the compatibility mode for Win XP. Over the past 5 years or so, I've beaten the retail DVD version and GOG(both on Win 10), and now Steam version(on Win 11) all with zero crashes.
Even with those compatibility fixes applied, every time I've added GotR mod on top and started a new game, it always reintroduced crashes in each version.
Simply ignoring GotR entirely and forcing the 30 fps limit through nvidia control panel, turning on v-sync, setting Win XP compatibility and running as admin has always been a crash free play-through for me, personally, across three different game versions, on three different PCs, each with different CPUs/GPUs(all intel CPUs and nvidia GPUs, fwiw.)
