Saints Row 2

Random Crashing after missions/cutscenes
So I've played 700 hours of this game, and I know the PC port has always been awful compared to what this game is on consoles. On my last computer, the game would always crash after the mission Three Kings (the one where you recruit Carlos, Pierce and Shaundi near the beginning of the game) Although on this new PC, that problem has inexplicably been fixed (though I've seen other people still have it, so idk)

Anyway, now the game just crashes whenever it feels like it. I'd say there's a 10-15% chance of it insta-hard-crashing ANY TIME it fades to black before or after a cutscene. I've also had the game occasionally crash whenever my character or any NPC opens a car door, can't even slightly explain that one.

It doesn't make the game unplayable, it just makes it a lot more tedious when you finish a long mission only for the game to crash after the last cutscene and have all your progress undone. Anyone else have this issue? I'm still waiting patiently on the patch, I just wanna know if I'm alone on this or if anyone has a temporary fix I could try

after eternal sunshine and completeing every other gang mission before this mission, but something about shaundis plan probably working just doesnt sit right with the game and has crashed it every time consistently

Have you found a fix for this, im getting the same issue but its literally after every cutscene
Update: It's been almost a year and the mission Assault on Precinct 31 has a 100% chance of crashing the game after the final cutscene, so yeah I guess The Freezer has escaped containment

I've got a pretty powerful gaming laptop and I've got a guaranteed crash after the 2nd ronin mission (laundering the heist money) I've tried everything, turning off hdr, downloading and installing the barebones version of that one mod made by that one guy who is now sadly dead, locking the framerate at 30, I even bought a tool that could force the game to run in borderless windowed mode on windows 11. Nothing has fixed it. It's a real shame because I was having fun with it despite its age.

I find a big fix to crashes in this game is making sure it's running at the refresh rate it wants. Make sure it's set to specifically 60, and don't forget to disable Gsync or any equivalent for this game. Combine that with limiting frames to 30 (I do 28 just to be safe). With those settings I never have to worry about crashes, even the infamous "unfixable" ones caused by the wardrobe and the airport mission, and even without GotR.

Yep, same here. In addition to limiting fps to 30 through the nvidia control panel and turning on v-sync I also run it as admin and set the compatibility mode for Win XP. Over the past 5 years or so, I've beaten the retail DVD version and GOG(both on Win 10), and now Steam version(on Win 11) all with zero crashes.

Even with those compatibility fixes applied, every time I've added GotR mod on top and started a new game, it always reintroduced crashes in each version.

Simply ignoring GotR entirely and forcing the 30 fps limit through nvidia control panel, turning on v-sync, setting Win XP compatibility and running as admin has always been a crash free play-through for me, personally, across three different game versions, on three different PCs, each with different CPUs/GPUs(all intel CPUs and nvidia GPUs, fwiw.)

Get the GOG version (or at least exe) and run the game in windowed or borderless mode. Far more stability.
