Saints Row 2
The Boss...
....or the main character. Whatever you want to call him/her.
I liked their psychotic attitude so much more in SR2 then their personality in the following games. I just can't buy into that whole "puckish rogue" bull$hit the later games try to sell me.
You guys agree or do I have anger issues?

It's a shame the more in-character decision at the end of SR3 isn't cannon.

Killing Killbane wasn't really in-character. He was a psycho, but he wouldn't sacrifice his homie to kill someone that is just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Because really, what did Killbane do to boss? He killed Kiki, antagonist, he took away Angelo's mask and ruined Johnny's funeral. He didn't even kill anyone, like Ronins or Brotherhood. Killbane was just bad villain, and it made the choice really one-sided for me.

I heard originally Bane was supposed to launch atom bomb on Stilwater, killing everyone within. Now that would make the decision actually in-character. Or if Lorenzo survived and it was he at the end.

Wouldn't sacrifice a homie maybe, but Shaundi was constantly getting captured, we'd literally just finished saving her for the umpteenth time. At least in SR2 she had connections for drugs and information and whatnot, in 3 she was nagging everyone while trying to be a badass.

Viola was an antagonist too really; and Burt Reynolds ... I don't get the whole Burt Reynolds thing. Archer did it as well. Strip that away and he was a jerk in the game too.

The villains were pretty lame though that's true. Cartoon supervillain type stuff. Deckers guy, Killbane and Loren dying way too early. I can see they were going for surprise but it dragged the rest of the game down a bit.

Would have worked better if it was the army-police-chief guy what's-his-face was the final villain. He mentions Jessica in one of his rants, it would have been better if he was her dad too. Put the vengeance on the other foot I suppose.

Cyrus Temple. The leader of STAG. You will meet him in IV, though it's at the prologue scene. Not really a good deciscion of Volition. Would indeed be better if he was the last one. Though you already have make a choice of saving shaundi, viola and that mayor from the STAG lieutenant Kia or killing eddy "killbane" pryor.
Saints Row: The Third plays different. The gangs ain't streetgangs, like in saints row 2. And the saints seems to be a bit softy. Bosses are indeed nothing like the general, maero or shogo akuji.
It ain't a bad game, but if you are used to the gameplay of saints row and saints row 2, then it will feel not right.
I would have loved Saints Row 2 with 3 or 4s Engine. The way the boss dealt with Julius and Jessica in 2 and Gat with the Ronin....That was the Saints. I liked 3 and 4 for what they were but I am glad I played them before 2 as I would haven't have lasted.
I played 2 first, then went back to 1... then played 3 and 4 as they came out. I do enjoy them now for what they are but I was definitely "wtf?" the first time I played them.
I think I'm gonna try playing through the series again. I came to re-read this thread in hope that there was a post that would convince me to deal with the watered down version of the boss in the later games but it doesn't look like it.

Well, you could always look at it like Boss kinda settling down because he doesn't really need to be badass anymore. To be a good gangster he needed ruthlessness, and psycho attitude made him be feared which is also pretty good. But once he gained fame and started to go mainstream he didn't really need that so he softened up.
I'm gonna roleplay that a headshot wound after SR2 left him/her in a Psychopath state. Meaning no emotions, no fear, no empathy. So the lack of emotional outbursts in 3 & 4 with all the recklessness expected of the Boss.
Thats not bad huh?
Hmm you could look at it as some weird form of depression. Like they've achieved everything they were working for and it hasn't really made them happy or solved anything, so they just stop caring about anything and act on autopilot.

But yeah, I started playing again just cruising around the city, and I'd forgotten just how much better the vibe and the atmosphere is in this game.
More realistically in SR2 he woke up as a total psycho from that boat explosion... years of therapy later, he is still crazy but he has mellowed down a bit.
